Welcome to AAPK's Veteran’s Forum. This is a place where veterans can meet, get to know one another better, perhaps swap a story or two, and share any recent information that they have acquired from the Veterans Administration, DoD and Veterans Service Organizations, including but not limited to, DAV, AMVETS, VFW, American Legion, PVA, and MOPH. Another good source of information are branch specific organizations.
We will have a voluntary CHECKING IN topic where you can introduce yourself, years serve and branch or branches of service. Welcome Aboard!

US Army Airborne, E 4 , 1964-1966 Basic training Fr. Leonard Wood , Mo. Medic Training in Ft. Sam Houston, Tx, Jump school in Wiesbaden Germany, stationed at Coleman Barracks and Army Hospital Frankfort, Germany. Made 13 jumps all in Germany and Holland.
Terry ,did some AIT at ft. Lost in the Woods . Didn’t care for the weather there . All the times we flew over Europe we never did jump in there . Would’ve been cool to jump in Holland like my great Uncle did . We did get to fast rope a few times up by Graf during a big NATO workup.
Did my Air Assault training in the 2 nd year of the division switching over . That was a blast and would do that again. Although ,going on 64, it might not work out so well. Once we switched from Airborne to Air Assault we only jumped enough to keep our jump status.
As a Navy Air Traffic Controller a "fly-away" is anytime you have a mass movement of aircraft
to avoid an approaching storm (Hurricane) or when an aircraft carrier is returning to homeport
then aircraft have to leave the carrier while still at sea. The main thing is it's a large movement
of planes.

My Niece is stationed just down the road a piece from where you were at Tyndall, AFB. She and her husband are both lifers and they're happy with it. I think she has 5 years to go before retirement & he has three. She's a Master Sergeant (E-7). He's a Senior Master Sergeant (E-8).

How true it is.
There is a lot of truth to that one, though.

I worked on Navy and Marine Corps aircraft (primarily rotary wing), but never flew in one.

That's great "white sand beaches" territory... Hope they get to stay a while
