Beautiful knives Herb! All three of them!herbva wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 7:42 pmColonel, I couldn't agree with you more! I guess the loom fixers liked these too. The greenbone XX on the right had badly shattered scales when I got it, so I outfitted it with new greenbone. I'm still not sure if I like the effect or not. It might be in line for a "do-over" one of these days.Colonel26 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 3:31 pm The most awesome pattern CASE ever discontinued (and other makers as well). I know y’all have some out there, let’s show them some love. So CASE, Kabar, and any other brands that may be out there, let’s seem ‘em.
I’ll start with the one I pack the most, 6 dot wood handled. It was my first one and came to me with this awesome patina, these big ol thick blades sure do get sharp.

Funny you picked today to post. I’ve been waiting for this one and it arrived today. My favorite pattern.
These are most of my others.
The KA-BAR versions are great users, just a little slimmer than the Case versions. The KA-BARS don’t come up often, but usually sell cheap. The handle scales are a little boring though, also worth pointing out the blades are laid out differently on the KA-BAR
The Rough Riders are pretty nice too, I have the whole set except the one with the acorn shield, and the red one.

I hadn’t noticed it until your picture but right before I read it in your post I noticed the different blade position of the Kabar and the CASE. VERY INTERESTING!
I knew there had to be more loomfixer fans than just me and Chris around here!

Case XX era Loom Fixer and a 1979 Whaler, for comparison (4" vs 4 1/8").
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Here’s a 10 dot that came to me off the bay. It’s been well used and when I got it someone had removed the scales. So I sent it to Dale along with a hunk of hickory out of Pa’s old smokehouse (left over from the last time he cured hams) and this is the result.

Good history there, and your mother would have some fantastic stories.Beavertail wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 7:14 pmMy Grandfather was a loom fixer in the cotton mill.kootenay joe wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 5:13 pm So a "Loom Fixer" is a 2 blade sway back jack with a master blade similar to a sheepsfoot blade ?

He carried a Case loom fixer.
He would be hired by cotton mill to fix the looms and get them working correctly.
He said it would take about six months to a year to get them working.
Mother says they moved a lot when she was a kid. She's 93 and still going strong!
I love hearing her talk about when she was growing up.

I actually was a loom fixer for a few years, thus my interest in the pattern.
I have no recent pictures available ... I need to remedy that for this thread.
My small collection includes a 74 and a 76, a pre-dot that elvis re handled for me,
and a Kabar that has 'Loomfixer' hot stamped into the scale.
And one of the RR half hawk

On the one hand the KA-BARs seem awkward having nail nicks on both sides of the knife. The advantage I see is that as the master wears down, and you adjust the kick, the nail nick Doesn’t get hidden by the secondary blade.Colonel26 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 9:51 pmThose are really nice!eveled wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 8:47 pm F375C882-6AD5-4383-AE3A-819E202AF7D3.jpeg

The new family picture. Both my Case ones have no dots. Only one of my KA-BARs had the handle stamp.

Well it’s sad to say, but here’s my last one. It’s also the last one I bought before the prices went through the roof. It’s a Xx USA (no dots) red bone.
I need some more. I’m afraid these are going to get lonely.
