It's Electric! That is a great looking knife, with it's patina and the wood scales w/ shield. Very nice!

Here are my only two Electric Cutlery knives.The sleeveboard is stamped Walden NY and the the ivory pen is stamped Newark NJ.The pen also has the Electric logo in lightning bolts stamped into the master blade but it is barely visible.

Very nice! It's Electric! I think I'm going to be keeping my eyes open for the Electric logo when out and about hunting down old pocketknives

Do you think this knife would be pre 1890? I've seen this stamp on secondary blades on some knives having the Newark NJ stamp

I think it would be.Galvanic1882- Mike would be a better one to ask.

FRJ: I like MOTS, It's not pearl but it doesn't chip and break your heart. A lot of the older stuff is thick and doesn't shrink as much as other forms of celluloid. I have some rather old KA BARS and others that are still very good. J.O'.

What about this ELECTRIC stamp from Newark ,NJ( ELECTRIC CUT had an operation in Newark) ? I don't understand,but this old J T Mount Newark,New Jersey farmers jack is most likely late 1800's. It is a quality knife and right.

Lyle, I never heard of JT Mount and Electric being the same company or that JT Mount used the Electric Co mark. Electric was first used by Friedmann & Lauterjung then NY Knife Co after they were bought out??

I got a knife today from my uncle that said was my great great gramps edc knife. I know nothing about it. In very rough shape but I believe I can make out electric on it. Any info on it would be great, value, can it be restored etc. thanks

Welcome to AAPK.

I doubt you’ll find any more info on it than what is in this thread. Not sure what you mean by “can it be restored”. What’s wrong with it? Assuming it functions as it should, blades opening and closing with snap, then all it should need is a good cleaning. There are many threads and posts here about how to do that. If it has more serious problems like “lazy” blades or broken parts, then you’ll need to hire a knife mechanic to repair it unless you can do it yourself. There are two schools of thought about heirloom knives. One is that the knife is as it was when your great great gramps had it. The scratches and other “imperfections” that come with using any tool were put there by him. Do you want it to remember him by the use he gave it? Or do you want it to look like it did when he bought it - like a new knife?

My heirloom knives are as they were when the owner had them. I clean them of any rust, apply a rust preventative and oil them. That’s it. I like to remember the owners by the imperfections they put on them.

It’s your knife now. Those are your decisions to make.

Per Goins’ Encyclopedia (page 127) the ”Electric” stamping was also used by Imperial around 1936. The stamp was also used previously by the firm of Friedman & Lauterjung. There have been similar stamping variations such as “Electro”, “Electron”, etc used by other firms at various times. Without seeing the stamp on your knife (and possibly even after seeing it) it is not possible to know who made it or when.
