Crucible made some beautiful knives, as your examples show!
It is a shame that the green celluloid is outgassing though. I would recommend pulling those handles off immediately, and having them replaced before it ruins a great knife.

This was my grandfathers. There appears to be a “28” stamped on the opposite side of the blade of the company name. Can anyone please give me information on it?

Likely a pattern number identifying the model. The parent company was W.T. Grant Co., a "25 cent store" like Woolworth's, in Lynn, MA. There is some discussion as to who actually manufactured them, 1926-1932. Nice knife ::tu:: j.O'.

Both blades still look pretty full. That's a great keepsake. Wish I had some more info for you.

Nice little knife you have there, Steils, especially since it was your grandfathers.
Welcome to the forum.

If you oil it and carry it it will buff up with use and pocket time.
Do you sharpen?
