I cut steel pins too. Never had an issue cutting pins of all kinds.

The one that Randy just finished for me will fill the bottom right hole!

This is where my anxiety about breaking or cracking handles comes in... I guess I just need more experience on beaters to get comfortable with the whole concept

I would love to make a joke about China made steel, but in this case they really do not deserve it...

You are quite good at this Randy. I can see your no fear type of approach, and I respect that.

I just need more practice, a few more broken bits, and it will come together.

Actually more like ignorance, I simply had no doubt it would do the job. I also have Asperger's its a form of Autism. Not bad for a 60 year old that simply does what I think I needs to be done. Lots of trial and error in my life. That's how I learn! Its tough to learn this way, but once I get something down its mine for life! Plus having spent the last 20 years dealing with sever pain issues involving my hands, neck and back. I need things to work without too much experimenting these days. So after trying lots of ways to cut pins I asked Dale (Orvet) how he did it and that's what I do. Wished I wasnt so stubborn. I should have asked sooner but I have to through the error making before I find my own answer. Or when frustrated enough I ask for help. Kinda like doing everything bass ackwards! Thank goodness for AAPK and all of the friends that I have made here. That Colonial was done shortly after I had my cervical spine fused at C5. Just have to keep busy! Plus too stubborn to rest!

I feel terrible about your health issues, and more so the pain you have to live with.
My pain(s) come from years of motor sports, water, and snow skiing, and free climbing accidents. Combine a daredevil mentality, and no money for hospitals... you get a worn out pile of misaligned bones in a tired body.

I think other than health we have a lot in common as far as learning processes go. I have to hear a flowing conversation to actually learn things. Written instruction NEVER sinks in. I can follow audio tutorials tho.
Sooo all that makes for that bass akwards approach you use. Thus my modified chisel attempts. I also bought a 10lb chunk of tool steel for an anvil but I found I need a "Stiddy" with a flange to do what I need to do.

I hope I don't wear out my welcome by asking the most basic questions all over the forum but it is how I learn.
Thanks for putting up w/ me in your thread. The info is more than helpful.

Ps... keep hanging tight. Even when it hurts to build things, the end result is always worth your effort.
