I have been thinkin' on my two choices, and the first one is pretty easy for me, Case 6375 big stockman
..or in the case of mine the 6.5375 stockman, as mine is bonestag. Love the way this knife fills the hand, the main clip is long and useful, and oh that awesome sheepsfoot! Best sheepsfoot blade out there as far as I am concerned, especially paired with the long handle. The spey blade is great for whittling wood...or surgically removing the veins from peppers! Love this knife and this pattern. I have tried other companies big stockman but I keep coming back to the Case.

Second choice is not so clear cut....I really like the pocket friendliness of the 3 1/2 " GEC mini moose, and the usefulness of the two blades, usually reserving the long spear for food and the clip for utility, makes a great combo.....
Then there is the Case 6235 1/2.....such an aesthetically pleasing knife, pocket friendly, half stops, smooth action, thin grinds on the blades making for an excellent slicer, and something about it just "feels right" if that makes any sense, classic....
So #2 is up in the air for me, and subject to change, but I am pretty well settled on #1

Favorites can change over time ... when I was young I always carried a stockman, but through most of my adult life I have carried a simple lockback like this little Russell or a similar size Buck. Over the past couple of years I have changed to whittlers like this old Craftsman, or a Case Seahorse. So I am ranking the lockback and the whittler as number one and two, with a stockman as three, even though I never carry one these days, and a classic style fish knife as four.

Sorry. I tried to narrow it down but that's as good as I could do. Guess I like them all.

I have to go along with you;no way in the world I could favor just two patterns. Although I have carried a folding knife since I was about ten ,the recent posting of some small custom fixed blades that you can pocket carry may change my way of thinking.

It's been a couple of years since this thread was active and we've acquired several new members since, so if you're fairly new to the forum or your tastes have changed over the past few years, let's hear it, what are your all time favorite patterns?

No question for me. #1 - Camillus 72 and clones. Since this thread was last active I've acquired a taste for Mini-Trappers, (new passion) mostly Case but any brand will do and they have bumped the old #2 into third place.

I'm liking these two guys right here. Equal end thin pens in two different sizes. Sometimes one without the other and sometimes both.
I don't require a lot of knife anymore.

Slip joints #1 lock blades # 2. If you hold a gun to my head I'd say congress #1 and Jack's #2 probably a Barlow being my favorite jack. But as Ray said I like'm all, even fixed blades, axes and anything with a point or cutting edge.

I previously said I thought it was Peanuts & small Lockbacks. Apparently, I'm not spending my money on the knives I like best! According to my collection metrics:

Pen: 19%
Modern: 14%
Peanut: 14%
Jack: 11%
Stockman: 11%
Lockback: 9%
Barlow: 2%
Trapper: 2%
Muskrat: 2%
Whittler: 1%

Note: "Jack" is a catchall for 1 & 2 bladed knives that do not have common names, eg. a Case 2-blade 87 or an 028. "Modern" is any tactical or non-traditional knife, eg Kershaw, Spyderco, Ganzo, CRKT, etc.

I tried it with numbers, like TwoFlowersLuggage. I knew that I liked the Stockman & Whittler & toothpick patterns pretty well, but the top two in this house are indeed Barlow & Canoe, or maybe Canoe & Barlow.

My very first favorite pattern was a straight knife clip point.
Then I found AAPK and my longtime favorite became the Barlow, followed by the stockman/whittler, followed by the standard jack.

My present favorite pattern has turned out to be the classic spear point pen knife.

Boker, IXL, Case (recon turquoise by Muskrat Man), Vic, Robeson Suredge at 3 1/2"
So I can narrow them down to 2, (1) Barlow, and (2) single spring spear point pen knife.
Looking forward to finding out what my next favorite will be.
