As I understand it, some factory 2nds are marked with a "2" and are sold only from GEC's display cases at the factory. That is, walk in traffic & no internet sales.

Other knives with less noticeable cosmetic blems are marked with an "S" on the tang and these are sometimes made available to distributors to sell as an EDC knife at a reduced cost. I know of four distributors that have or have had EDC models for sale at one time or another. I own a few of these EDCs, and you've got to really look very closely to find the flaw. They're typically very minor. I even have one that I can't find anything wrong with.
