Hoyt Buck produced the first Buck Knife in 1902. Hoyt and his son Al moved to San Diego and set up shop as H.H. Buck & Son in 1947. Al Buck revolutionized the knife industry in 1964 with the infamous Model 110 Folding Hunter. The company's innovative history and attention to quality have made for many great collectible knives.
Awesome knives guys.
The 300 series will forever be a workingman's knife. I have seen more of them than any other knife around.
They get to be the users, of farmers, hunters, mechanics, machinists and welders. I see them everywhere.
Great knives KoldGold, thanks for reviving this thread. Here is my most recent 301, graciously provided through the July AAPK GAW - a Boone and Crockett edition, Paperstone handle variation. OH

Awe yes, you did not say the date code. Likely a 2010 or 2011. The apparently unpopular 306 Duet. The attempt to bring back the small pocketknife with a scissors.
They came in four versions, Charcoal Dymondwood, Yellow Delrin, Pink Delrin and black sawcut. The first three will have scale rivets and the sawcut will not.
They were discontinued so you have a collectors item of the future.
300
(Another example of joining Buck Collectors Club so you can access old catalogs on the website)
300Bucks, it is a black sawcut. As far as date code goes I would not even know where to start to look. After looking at that list you provided I feel relieved that I am not going after every variation! Your collection must be something to behold! I found the "Duet" on Amazon, NIB.
I feel assured that yours is a model 306 of recent vintage. The date code is a symbol found on the tang of the main blade following the model number. Date codes began with 1986 but are not found on Camillus contract knives produced after that date. Those were usually associated with Smoky Mountain Knife Works special orders.
Here are the codes. 300
Hello: I just registered after reading this interesting thread. I wonder if my Buck 301 BB with 301 + on the blade (and of course buck bone handles) is worth enough to sell for $50 or more, or should I just start using it? I believe it was made around 1991 -- there is a note from Al Buck in the box.
I trust this is not an abuse of the customs of this site.
First, welcome lionoil to AAPK and especially to the Buck sub-forum (lucky Friday the 13th!) Your Buck 301 would have been made by Buck in their plant in 1991. If new-in-the box and perfectly undisturbed you may get $50.00 for it, but most probably $40 - $45. That version would have flat grinds, a feature many people seek out. I would pocket it, use it, enjoy it, show it off, and be happy I had it as my EDC pocketknife. OH
Ps Thanks Lenny for reviving this thread - what's not to like about a BUCK 301?
