Thanks, it falls in the 1946-1973 range, not sure beyond that. As you know, Ted Williams was the marketing equivalent of Michael Jordan in his day. Sears put his name on just about every type of sporting goods products they could think of. I have a Ted Williams fly reel, and I remember someone showing a pic of a lantern or something with his name on it.

Finding these types of knives with the etch still in tact is tough, but not impossible. All kinds of treasures popping up since Schrade went under.

I think this one is British. No tang stamp, but materials remind me of other mitilary knives I have owned/seen.
Blade is stamped "BOY SCOUT".

thought i would share a pic of my sailors knife. this is a case xx 1972 with red bone handles in mint condition. its also one of my favorites of my collection.

Hello;
This is no where near your quality but none the less it is of interest. Got it about two hours ago.

It is marked SCHRADE/WALDEN/NY/U.S.A. The reverse has 163 stamped.
I would like to think 1946/1947. If anyone knows anything definitive, please let me know. My belief is a sailors rope knife. Please notice fancy copper bail. They did with what they had.

The 163 had the sheepfoot blade (versus same frame with a Hawkbill) and was in fact known as a rope knife. The tang marking was used from 1946 until around 1973, and I'm pretty sure that model was a regular part of production during those years. Sort of hard to pin it down tighter than that, IMO. Maybe the copper bail versus another type bail is a clue...but I don't know for sure
