Here is the blade etch I was talking about on knife blades during the Spanish American War era.

Miller Bro`s had the same etch on their rope knives of that era.

This is a great thread ::tu:: . Lots of beautiful knives ::nod:: . The first knife is the Admiralty Pattern 301 Royal Navy knife circa WWI give or take a few years. The second is the standard WWII issue Royal Navy Knife. :D s-k

A battered old knife for sure, this could just as easily have gone in the ' Relics of beauty ' thread.

It seems almost a requirement that every collector of vintage knives have a Russell barlow. I went a little off track, and added this to my collection instead. Well worn and missing it's shackle, the spine of this Russell Green River Works looks like it's been hammered through many a piece of salty rope.

Speaking of old rope knives, there were about a dozen listed on Ebay today. Some looked pretty nice.

I have in my posession a knife that was given to my father when I was 4 years old, he gave it to me before he died.
it has wooden handles, 1 handle has the name stamped into it [St Louis Cordage Mills"
the opposite handle has "AMCO" "all weather rope"
at the hinge portion of blade, the words "shapleigh HWD Co, with an emblem in shape of a diamond, inside this emblem is the letters DE
the opposite side of blade has the serial #, I presume, "A109"
Is there anyone out there who can tell me about this knife?
I have 3 pretty good pic's of the knife, however this site wouldn't upload them
if so please email me,I will return your email with pic's in an attachment
Thanks
Samuel
