Floyd you said a "mouthful" when you said a "fist full"! I only have one of those 858's and it is a great knife.

The second one is a Queen canoe w/ amber bone stag. Queen’s amber bone stag is amongst the best made.

I've got to be honest and say I'm glad you hesitated. That Paragon you got is a very quality looking knife. Is there an spike in the number of Japanese knives being purchased right now or does it just seem that way to me?

I have been noticing that too. I have been buying Japanese made knives for many years and I am seeing a lot more competition for the good ones than I use to. For that matter I think knife prices have risen significantly since the pandemic. They certainly have on the Japanese knives and most especially on GEC knives. Prices on those are getting ridiculous. Certain patterns still don’t sell well, but those that are really desirable are bringing 800 to 1100 dollars. Case knives on the other hand are being left behind. The most common knives they make, that aren’t vintage, are hardly moving. I guess a rising tide doesn’t lift “all” boats.

Thanks, Treefarmer! I’m glad it’s got rounded bolsters for pocket wear but I think I still need to find a leather belt sheath to carry it. It’s a LARGE pocket knife.

I found two knives in my mailbox today--my first introduction to Hen and Rooster (German, of course), and this cute little yellow feller with no tang stamp other than "USA" on the main blade and three Imperial patent numbers on the other. I'm presuming it was some kind of Imperial product, but no clue what.

I'm going to see if some alcohol (or maybe acetone) will clean off some of the crud on the blades. Otherwise, I guess I should look up information on properly cleaning old knives. I mean, these are probably not great collector's items, but I don't want to ruin them out of ignorance.

Two knives from TripleF (Scott).

Schrade USA SP-2 Raider and Pine Knot (Colonial Ranger) 4" Stockman. Both solid users, which is why they were bought. I did not have a user standard-configuration Colonial Stockman (two are in the collection, an Old Cutler version has loose blades). The SP-2 is a watch pocket/sweatpants carry. As someone who has used the SP-3 and the smaller 3OT a lot, I thought the SP-2 would be too small, but it really isn't. I thought the 3OT/SP2 and SP3/5OT were basically the same frame except a lightweight version, but guess not.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Pal knives. I've been disappointed several times when finding one and it comes in with a lazy blade. The reason for the lazy snap has been discussed several times, soft spring or soft blade. Today I received a Pal Boy Scout knife, in the mail that is in wonderful condition, it has the proverbial "gator snap". The punch still has the blue finish, the old style can opener, the cap lifter with the screw driver blade are bright and the main is a full spear. Needless to say, I'm pleased with this one! You’re right about not seeing a lot of Pal knives seeing how they closed down in the early 1950’s.

I only had one Opinel in my collection and when I saw this collection
I thought just do it and be done with it.

David, you captured a whole tribe of Opinels! That's pretty neat.

Jerry, Rough Rider is really tempting me lately. I haven’t seen this knife before, I like it. I saw this Rough Rider bone stag doctor’s knife on Ebay the other day and I am so tempted. They have some very nice looking knives lately. I think the quality and styling has been stepped up a few notches.

Wowie David, glad you got it. I am excited for you. A one year catalogued knife with the no line stamp. Cool indeed.

That Opinel set has been tempting. A good set for when you "can't make up your mind" as to which one you want. I have the #6 and #12 as standard Opinels, and a #9 DIY which has a polymer handle, thick stainless steel drop-point blade with wire strippers, and a 1/4" drive bit driver and storage for two bits in the handle. It's a really good work knife when you want something light and don't want to drag along the Leatherman because your toolbox is right there with you on the workbench.

My next group will be the #12 Explore (for a fishing knife), #08 Outdoor, as well as standard carbon steel #7, #8, #9, and #10. The #12 is a knife that isn't really good for much as a user knife, but it's great in the kitchen.

No Sir, I got the box on eBay, but I got the knives from separate venues.
That price on eBay for $149.00 (I think) was much more than I was willing to pay.
