The top and base are Red River Gum.The post is Wilga,it's a plain white timber so I stain it with Rosewood stain.

It's naturally knotty/holey .It's finished with a oil base clear satin Wattyl Esapole to seal the wood.

Jerry I did use a chain saw.I cut it about four years ago and had to wait till the wood dried.I had to make a face plate with a left hand thread. So I could spin the burl on the outside of the lathe, as the burl would not clear the lathe bed.It was a slow process as the burl was not balanced and the lathe had to turn very slow to stop it vibrating.(I have had lathes bounce around the floor with wood out of balance)

Grant that is a wonder piece you've created. I'm no woodworker but I do know just enough to realize that was no small task and took some true skill to produce. Kudos to you sir.

Here are some pics of Thanksgiving day. We didn't get a ton of snow but it was wet and heavy and knocked out power for about 200,000 people in NH. Surprisingly, we did not lose power.


If you look carefully, you will see that this is my driveway. Totally blocked off, had to cut everything away.


This was kind of a cool shot...

We were supposed to have dinner over at my parents, but they had lost power. We moved everything over to our place and made it happen. Later in the day, had these guys hanging out in my yard for a couple hours. Too funny! Think they were protesting?

Beautiful photos, Glenn. That one with the sun shining through should be submitted to a contest or a magazine or something...stunning! I have never been to NH, but would like to sometime...preferably in the autumn...I don't think I could handle snow like that anymore (that's why I moved to HI).

I don't know about the Singer but this is what we do with the base of the pedal machines.I have two,a White and Singer. They are powder coated and safety glass on top.

When I was a little shaver back in the late 40's, early 50's, Mother had an old Singer which was powered by a treadle and a round leather belt. She would pump the treadle and then with both hands she would handle (feed and pull) the cloth that was being sewed into a dress or what ever she was making. How would a seamstress crank your "new" machine and control the cloth at the same time? Is that a 2 person machine? Or am I overlookin' somethin'?
Also, I remember my Dad making a table from the old frame when they got a new electric sewing machine. He painted the frame white and put a plywood top on it and covered that with light blue ceramic tile,that was probably 60 years ago .
