Any Train Enthusiasts Out There?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Caught some Norfolk Southern yard switching during my coffee walk. I think they have an offloading area for accelerant used at the Waste to Energy incinerator.

Nice photos, John, thanks for posting! I have been hoping to have the time, as well as the timing, to get some pics while the snow is around. Just missed a CN freight last night, tracks were right outside a pizza joint that we were in. I heard it coming but too late to get out the door in time.

Thanks, Ike and Tom.

There's a raring horse on the front of their locos, Tom, that I always thought was cool looking. Reminds me of the kicking goats I saw on the trains in Switzerland.

To all of you that like the drive side of locos i have a good link with some basic info and sound. It was posted on youtube by a regular poster over here, fantastic shots of a loco's drive unit and worth a look. Have a good Sunday.

Here's a couple pictures hanging in our dining room, The Narrows circa 1920 and The Spirit of Cumberland. Tried to get pictures without reflection.

My brother gets to deal with this today, 50 cars derailed in the yards in Cumberland. He can't figure out how they did this since the yard speed is reduced.

Wow what a mess. Looks like your brother has his work cut out for him.

Have seen CN and NS power rolling through this morning. Wasn't able to get a pic.

Could it have something to do with the tracks buckling in the extreme cold. ::hmm::

Well, it wasn't all that cold this morning like it was Sunday morning, which was around 7°, so ::shrug:: .

That is 2 of those since this thread started, that is unusual, right?

Great photos, I like that color scheme on those. I see them occasionally if I am in the St Louis area.

The second one in less than a year. The previous derailment pictures were from around last May. It is odd, probably related to these crazy long trains they're running now.

When we travel back down to central Florida to visit family, we travel several different routes. We'll go down one way and return another way, that way we get to see and enjoy some back roads and some of the remaining old Florida. Our return trip from Christmas, Florida, brought us, naturally through Webster, FL to check out the flea market but it also took us up US 19&98. Near a place known as Gulf Hammock and a cross roads called Otter Creek there is an old lumber company steam locomotive on display. Here are some pictures of the Vulcan locomotive and a two sided placard given history and some detail of P&M #3.

This is a trifle off topic but I thought the members might like to see it. I got this awhile back in an old machinists' tool box full of tools.I liked it because it had a hook on the end to make measuring a bit easier. Then I noticed it was seven inches long rather than the more-or-less standard six inch machinists' rule.
Made for a company that sells rails and related items the chart on the back is for computing the size of the rails as well as the "tons per mile" rating. Mostly Greek to me but kind of neat. It is also made of true stainless steel(non-magnetic).
