"I apologize God"

I apologize God,
for all the things,
that I've done wrong...

I apologize God,
all these years,
have come and gone...

You gave a gift,
I guess I've known it,
all along...

But I went wrong,
I did not stand strong,
I apologize God...

I apologize God,
for all the steps,
I did not take...

I apologize God,
for all the goals,
I did not make...

You gave a gift,
I guess I've known it,
all along...

But I went wrong,
I did not stand strong,
I apologize God...

Looking back,
over the years,
and now I know...

It was a gift,
You made the words,
just fall like snow...

Fall like snow...
Fall like snow...
They just fall like snow...

This is the night,
I guess you've known it,
all along...

That I make things right,
that I sit down,
and write this song...

This is your song...
This is your song...
I apologize God...

Thank you Tom, for those words.

On a personal level, your words speak to many of us. Confession to the Lord cleanses the soul.

In this day & time, drawing nearer to God will help in the days to come. I tend to believe God's Righteous Judgment is upon the world. We all must be ready on a Spiritual level.

 Thanks for the kind comments Ken! ::handshake::

Yesterday I just felt like it was time to write something for the big guy upstairs. ::tu:: After all, he gave me the talent to write in the first place. That is, if you want to call what I write talented. Guess that's a matter of taste. Some may enjoy it, while others may not enjoy it so much. It's like art I guess. We all like different pictures. ::nod::

I'm sure it's somewhat naive to post such personal thoughts like that on the internet. Good thing is, there is no such thing as an "important career" in my life for me to really worry about it. LOL!

Some move to Germany,
Some move to & fro,
On a track.

Some may think it strange,
But the truth still remains,
Some may move but they,

Tom, sometimes I fall behind in my reading of the forum. Catching up, your poem, “I Apologize God”, is very uplifting! Thank you for continuing to share your writing gift!

My dad used to say shi*t fire and save matches. I was just a kid but I thought if he wanted to save matches why didn't he just use his lighter.

How do you feel about French poetry? I love Charles Baudelaire. He has many wonderful poems, I don't even know which one would be more suitable as a quote, because he has many wise thoughts.

I just came across this and thought I would share them.
The first is a poem I wrote as a play of words with the old prayer "Now I lay me down to sleep."
The other is an opening speech I gave at church this past Veterans Day.

As I lay down to sleep,
I pray Lord for soldiers that You keep.

Protect them now I humbly pray,
Those that guard us every day.

And those that protect us through the night,
until the dawn of early light.

Give them strength when the night seems long,
And keep them safe from all harm and wrong.

And when their watch is finally done,
And their time of rest has finally come,

Bring them home for Thy reward,
And keep them close to Thee Oh Lord.

Who Are These Men And Women We Call Veterans?

Veterans come from every corner of our country.
Veterans come from every walk of life, bringing their own desires, talents, and dreams.
Veterans are our children, they are our fathers and mothers, they are our neighbors and co-workers.
Veterans are the ones that missed birthdays, anniversaries, and they could never seem to be home for the holidays.
Veterans are fathers that missed the birth of one of children or the mother that wasn’t home to see her child leave on their first day of school.
Veterans love this country and want to serve its people and defend the principal rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Veterans were warriors that answered the country’s call in times of conflict and citizens that render aid to others in times of emergencies and natural disasters.
Veterans are the citizens that through their service have defended our freedom, secured our liberties, and champion the oppressed around the world.
Veterans pledged by their sacred oath to defend our nation and its citizens against all enemies, foreign or domestic.
Veterans are sometimes called Patriots, Heroes, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and Guardsmen.
Veterans are the men and women that stood tall and were proud to wear the uniforms of the United States Armed Forces.
And for their service, their devotion, and their sacrifices, Veterans ask from us only two simple words….THANK YOU.
On Veterans Day or any other day, say thank you to a Veteran and pray for the safety of the Americans in uniform today, proudly serving this great nation...….. THANK YOU.

I write poetry once in a while and it usually comes like a monsoon, a heavy downpour and then the dry season. It may rain for me for months or even years and then it dries up usually for years between the monsoon rains. I probably wrote more poetry right after I got out of the Marine Corps than any other time in my life. It was my way of processing things.

The poem I would like to share with you now was written in the summer of 1981 while working as a security guard in the paper mill. The verses would be pouring into my head like a flood, all I while I did my rounds. When I got home I would jot them down and work out the rhythm of the words and syllables. I hope you enjoy it.

THE HORSEMAN

Sometime after the Late Show
I fell into troubled sleep.
The late night newsman doth
his babbling vigil keep.
The dreams I dream give no peace,
they trouble me most sore.
I dream of famine, pestilence,
prejudice, and war.

I dream of famine far and wide
and all across the land.
Of children that are hungry so,
they cannot even stand.
The things I see, the vision there…
they trouble me quite deep.
As the apocalyptic horseman
goes riding through my sleep.

The horseman stops and bids me mount,
and ride awhile with him.
I see the looks on people’s faces,
and all are very grim.
Past starving children & dying parents,
onward…the horse doth sweep.
As the apocalyptic horseman
goes riding through my sleep.

New leaders arise for the masses,
and promise everything,
but promises are all for naught…
for the emptiness they bring.
Yet the people still cling blindly,
they follow on like sheep.
As the apocalyptic horseman
comes riding through my sleep.

I see disease spread far & wide,
and death at every hand.
No cure is there for this new plague,
that sweeps across the land.
A plague so bad that millions die,
their bodies lie in heaps.
As the apocalyptic horseman
goes riding through my sleep.
Earthquakes, storms & tidal waves
have shattered all the calm.
Then volcanoes too explode,
with the force of a mighty bomb.
Nature is on a rampage…
her own revenge to seek.
As the apocalyptic horseman
goes riding through my sleep.

New philosophies & polities arise
and many do abound,
people fight for many reasons,
wealth, ideals and crown.
Bodies lie at every hand,
the smell of death doth reek,
As the apocalyptic horseman
goes flying through my sleep.

New weapons are invented
to take a higher toll,
wait, I hear a new sound,
it is the war drums roll.
Armies clash, the war began,
into battle they do leap.
As the apocalyptic horseman
rides on through my sleep.

The steed doth mount and take to wing,
we rise above the soil.
We see the many people
who for their leaders toil.
They follow blindly, never caring,
into the abyss they leap.
As the apocalyptic horseman
flies on through my sleep.

As we fly the horseman points out,
man’s inhumanity to man,
of suffering, prejudice and slavery
on a scale vast and grand.
When I think I too am guilty, It causes me to weep.
As the apocalyptic horseman
soars on through my sleep.

I see this famine far and wide,
it reaches numbers vast.
It touches people every where,
of every class and caste.
Though workers work and farmers toil
there is no crop to reap.
As the apocalyptic horseman
goes riding through my sleep.

I seem to feel guilty,
for I am strong and able,
yet these people long to eat,
the scraps upon my table.
With remorse I now recall,
the food my Larder keeps.
As the apocalyptic horseman
goes riding through my sleep.

The war clouds gather overhead,
as we descend back to the ground,
my senses there are overwhelmed,
with the battle sound.
I look around and there I see,
the bodies piled deep.
As the apocalyptic horseman
goes riding through my sleep.

I look now to the horseman,
not one, but there are four.
The white horse of the conqueror,
the blood red horse of war.
The black horse has brought famine
as he rode on in his quest.
The pale horse has brought pestilence,
disease, earthquake and death.

The horsemen have brought trouble
everywhere they go,
leaving in their pathway
a race overwhelmed with woe.
Yet on they ride both far & near,
as their rage they vent.
It seems that rage builds more rage,
and it is never spent.

I finally see the riders faces,
as they turn to go,
It gives me a start to realize
these are faces that I know.
You see these riders represent
everyone of us,
we’re the ones responsible
for their destruction & their death.
The night has gone, the light has come,
the dawn breaks gray and dull.
The night I spent with the horsemen four,
has shaken me to my soul.
Memory of the carnage wrought,
makes me awake and weep.
For the apocalyptic horsemen,
have ridden through my sleep.
