Re: Barlows does anyone else love them
What a beautiful Knife! I am a big Queen fan (my mother was born and raised in Titusville, PA and some of her relatives worked in the Queen factory in the 30's and on.) Like you when I first starting collecting knives I didn’t really like Barlows. I was always a Trapper collector. But now they are in 3rd place after Trappers and Stockman (would that be "Stockmen"?Sharpnshinyknives wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 1:31 am Alright I lost my mind when I bid on this one the other day. I tend to do that when I buy one for my own collection. But as you can see this is one drop dead gorgeous barlow. Made by Queen for Robeson, this was a limited production run of just 200. I believe these were ordered by SMKW. Brown saw-cut bone with the engraved bolsters. Just one of the best looking Barlows of all time. Funny when I first starting collecting knives I didn’t really like Barlows. But now they are the most collected pattern in my collection. I have grown to love them. I ooh and awe when I see them now. I had to catch my breath on this one, it’s at the top of my list for best looking Barlows.

Sharpshinyknives, that barlow is a true beauty! Most all of these are that you gentlemen are posting.
Like a few of you have said, I disliked the look of a Barlow until I started collecting/accumulating knives.
This pattern grows on you quickly!

That Antique Smooth Bone Case is a beauty.
As is that Camillus, I don’t think I have ever seen a saw cut bone Barlow from them before.

Here's an odd one. Queen 1992, Aluminum body is a single piece, bolsters, liners, back plate all in one. Pattern #22. Stainless. Internal springs.

Ridgegrass,
I know what you're saying about the weight of that configuration of Queen Barlow.
I have a #23 (pen main blade) and a #27 (sheepfoot main blade), they are so light they make you wonder about their durability?
Their patent number is the same # used on the Big Chief Queens #45 and it is a pretty tough knife.
If I haven't read the old Queen catalogs wrong, both the traditional Queen Barlow, those made with brass liners and the Aluminum framed Queen Barlows carried the same pattern numbers.

I haven’t seen that closed backspring Queen for some time now. I like the looks of it.

Re: Barlows does anyone else love them
I have about 2 dozen of them from various makers. Every week a different one goes in my pocket.
Recently, I accepted this one in payment for some forgotten debt. Not really sure what it is as the blades are backwards to my thoughts as are the nail nicks.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Kevin

I don't know how much you were owed but that is a fabulous knife. Cripple Creek, if anyone owes me anything I will take that as payment. You did well.

Re: Barlows does anyone else love them
Just Google Cripple Creek and it will take you to a very long thread on Blade Forums that has just about every knife Bob Cargill made. Here is the link: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/bob ... s.1564495/
It’s about 20 pages long but it’s very thorough.
Hope that helps.

Does anyone know what the letters etched on the main blade mean?
Thank you.

I agree. I’m not a Barlow fan, but I’ll take one of those any day as payment.

Re: Barlows does anyone else love them
So I have an addiction on these Russell Green River Works knives, especially the Barlow’s. I can’t seem to resist these when I see them. I actually have 3 of these red bone ones. I am giving myself permission to keep one, finally. These were made by Boker, back in the early 2000’s. I don’t believe they are making any of these anymore. I have a hunch that these were commissioned by Smokey Mountain Knifeworks, primarily for the Kniveslive TV show. I remember they use to have a lot of these for sale on that show. They did something similar with the Robeson brand with Queen around that time as well, if memory serves me correctly.
Two blade Barlow with smooth red bone handles. The bolsters are stainless and I’m pretty sure the pins are also. It does have brass liners. Not sure if the blades are stainless or carbon steel? They aren’t marked stainless or rostfrei but I have learned that is not always an indicator. If anyone knows for sure please let me know.

Yep, take a needle and roll it in some paste gun blue and drag it across the flat on the bottom flat of the kick. It will leave a black line if its not stainless.

Re: Barlows does anyone else love them
Wow--really cool barlows, everyone! For some reason, I never liked a barlow much until the last 6 months or so..now, they're one of my favorite patterns! I picked this Keen Kutter two blade barlow up from eBay this week with some other knives in the lot..I really just wanted this one.. the main blade has little to no snap but zero side play and the secondary blade has great snap with no side play..I'm going to clean it a little, sharpen it then add it to my EDCS... Keen Kutter items (knives or anything) are my favorite collectible...
