Mighty fine round of pickups fellers, mighty fine
.
Ole fibro farm's mailbox had the vintage Voss stag hunter I snagged from Steve (Mr. Case) a few weeks ago.
Even better then I hoped for
. Like yer new stockmans Steve, used, but not abused. A lot of character on this ole girl, much like a fine aged, vintage wine, she's got style
.
And the fancy pattern is not acid etch... She deeply engraved, which I haven't seen before on a fixed blade. Adds a element of refinement, class. And the stag they used is super perty, and perfectly matched both sides.
It does need a light cleaning/sharpening, but it's practically nothin'.
Winner in me book, especially for a early Voss, at the price he sold it for, don't come much better then this.

I'm going to fix her up a bit, when I get the time in
. Clean her up, polish it out, put a new edge on her, and good too go. Now to figure out how to go about dealing with it... Any suggestions folks?

Thank ya Steve, i'm coon fingering her at the moment. Absolutely winner of a knife, even if it does need a light cleaning.
Following the advise of the are resident knife mechanics, i'll give it a light polishing with fine wet/dry sandpaper, and put a new edge on her. I do want to preserve the overall look of the aging, gives a lot of character, maybe even carry her a little, seeing that's what she's meant to do

Gotta quit putting that one off. I really like it; and for the price, and that steel, it is absolutely dirt cheap. The cheapest VG-10 Spyderco is the Ladybug, and they are $40 something here locally.

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
Came home from vacation evening last and had a package waiting for me. This is the one that took 12 days to wind it’s way from Detroit to eastern NC, arriving several hours after we left for vacation (had a neighbor retrieve it from my front porch and hold on to it for me). This knife, a build of Jeff’s, was worth the wait. Jeff took some original Schrade blades and springs and created the rest of the knife - WOW, what a knife. I now have a medium serpentine Jackknife with my two favorite blades - Jeff made the brass bolsters and liners as well. The brown bone reminds me of Case from the last 1970’s - just a very nice effort and result on Jeff’s part. If you haven’t added one of his rebuilds you should give him a try (AAPK - Second Life Knives). OH

OH, down the road someone will be scratching their head and saying "well built knife but I can't find it in any of the catalogues". You got a winner there. I have a couple and am pleased with both of them. Congrats.

The mailman yesterday brought me this wonderful knife I purchased from Jeffin in the fund raiser for AAPK. He left the handle unfinished so I think I will get some wax and rub it down. My pictures do not do it justice as it appears there are imperfections in the wood but to the naked eye they are not seen. I think it might be glare. Wonderful knife Jeff, thanks for your generosity and great knife.

Great find Steve!steve99f wrote: ↑Sun Jul 19, 2020 8:46 pm Couldn't stand watching any more TV so wife and I went to a local antiques mall type of place. Even with the fans running, it was tough. Breathing through masks doesn't help either. But anyway, found this 3 blade split spring whittler with stag handles and a blade etch from L F & C. There are two springs with a brass wedge. 3 9/16 OAL, blades may not have been sharpened, no wobble and the main blade is a nail breaker to open. Maybe the oil will loosen it up a little. It was so inexpensive and way too hot to stand there and bargain, 12 bucks seemed fair.![]()
Anyway, in one reference I have, the Houston book, it indicated this could be Humason & Beckley pattern or and L f & C pattern Can anyone nail that down and an era of production?

The Camillus looks like the little brother to my 179 stockman.
Both knives used but certainly not abused. Real good walk and talk on both.
Both knives were packaged well.
Jerry was more than fair on the deal. And you noticed he was good on his word to get 'em as soon as he could.
Thanks again Jerry!!

Got this one today. It’s a Boker made Henckels stockman. I was really stuck by the buffalo horn handles. These are some of the prettiest horn handles I have ever seen.

Sweet knife Mark!, I just got this out of the mailbox yesterday from KJ (Roland).. A Camillus pilots survival machete? I've always wanted a Case model, but they're out of my price point ..This is just as nice and I love it.. thanks KJ!
