That sentence would have taken me forever on my iPad, auto correct has added a whole new layer of complications to my typing. It also makes me lazy when it tries to anticipate what I am saying and gives me the option to touch the word they think I am going for. My typing teacher from high school would be appalled.

The diminutive 5300 is interesting. The size of a SAK Classic but with a much more substantial blade. I had been almost invariably a 'one knife at a time' guy but I now find myself grabbing the 5300 when I'm carrying a fixed blade or large folder.

S2K, I can see that. A fixed blade is nice when you have a big task but for the more common purposes the folder would be a lot handier. I never carry a fixed blade. I don’t hunt and I have no big chores to do w/ a knife that large. Working in an office for 30+ years doesn’t bring a lot of opportunity to carry a fixed blade. But my pocket knife, Kershaw Double Cross, is perfect for what I need it for.
My Mcusta is suppose to be delivered today, so I am waiting w/ a lot of anticipation for the delivery truck. Will post pics when I get a chance.
Glad you are enjoying this thread. It’s the thread I check the most on this forum, I am loving it too. I have discovered some Seki knives that I didn’t know existed since this thread began. It’s been very helpful.

This is a Mcusta model MC-31D, made w/ a VG-10 core surrounded by 33 layered forged nickel Damascus steel. Came w/ this Nishijin woven pouch. As you can see from the last photo this blade is thick for tough tasks and is ground to a very fine razor sharp edge. The handles are made from the same Damascus steel as the blade, so the knife has some heft to it. No pocket clip. The blade opens like butter. The JKD site says it has an oiled washer. The liner lock feels good and solid.
I love this knife. You could carry this knife and use it and it wouldn’t show it. 2 thumbs up

This one pretty much wraps up my Seki folders. William Henry, made by Moki. Precision of a CRK, VG10 blade. Fantastic pocket clip slip. Finely ground and sharp. Think I might actually throw it in my pocket fir the evening. These show up occasionally on the Bay and can be tremendous values, not sure if I even paid a C note 4 - 5 years ago for this one.

Rob, A William Henry is on my “buy one of these before I die”list. Or BOOTBID list. A new phrase for AAPK forum users. Remember you read it here first. On the best thread on the entire forum. That’s right, we are setting a new standard. Make America Great Again.
I have yet to be able to be the highest bidder on a William Henry knife. They do go for a lot less than they were when they were new. But they still bring some big bucks. I have got to get serious about one some day.
I like that one. The only draw back for me is the serrated portion of that blade. Something sticks in my mind about a knife I sent to a Marine in Iraq, he specially stated no serrated blades. They were a big detriment in down range areas. Not suited for the tasks that Marines do every day.
I can see them for the right projects.

Ssk, I too am a desk jockey, but when I'm not at work I often carry a small fixed blade Bird and Trout knife or my Sharpfinger. It's much easier to simply pull a FB from it's sheath then to lever it out of a pocket and open. And, there's no real risk of an accidental closure - induced amputation.

I think it is a work of art also. I have had a chance to carry it and use it a little today and I am very impressed. It fits nicely in the pocket of my jeans. While it has some heft to it, it didn’t drag my pants to my ankles, in fact I forgot it was even in my pocket. This is one to use and enjoy. I would recommend it to anyone. JKD still says they are available. When you go to the site and click on Mcusta, click on the MC-3 and you will find all the Damascus handled and bladed knives. Well I finally found a heck of bargain on a Mcusta. I sure hope it wasn’t a mistake. I can’t figure out why this knife was available for 100 when the lowest price anywhere else is 184. Found it on Ebay.
Decided that I am going to collect all the MC-3 knives. JKD is sold out of most of the models, so I felt like I needed to move on this one. I have fallen in love w/ my new Mcusta. I don’t know how to break it to my wife. Anyone have an extra bedroom? Or know of a warm bridge I can live under?
The model I bought is attached ,It’s on top. All the other models in the MC-3 series are attached as well. If anyone sees a good deal on one of these and you don’t want it for yourself, please let me know.
Will post pictures of the new one when it comes in.

QS, that is an interesting knife. Looks like it was from their early days before they hit their stride. It lacks the elegance of the more recent knives. But very functional and I am sure well made. That looks like it would be perfect for some small jobs I can think of especially cleaning pan fish. All metal construction has some very good uses and sooo much easier to clean up.

SSk, Good observations. I agree it is not elegant. I picked it up because of its interesting design and as an early example by Al Mar. Tho even in the 80s I recall seeing knives that had fine styles similar to what we have become used to. This particular knife could easily be tagged as a tactical as that term is currently used. It is made with impressive precision. The handle is 4 1/2" and the blade 3 1/2." The slotted handle works well, and importantly, providing some traction to prevent the hand from slipping. I like the blade shape and its impressive sharpness.

I like the way it looks like all the energy is flowing into the point of that blade. When you see it open and from the side it looks like it is designed for making some serious penetration and slicing. I think a lot of thought went into this design.

I cannot know Mar's intention behind this design. However, I will speculate that given he was a Green Beret, and that the blade is so "aggressive" in its thrusting and slicing ability plus the considerable handle weight behind the blade it may have been intended as a true tactical, i.e. for social purposes of the most serious kind. But then too, it could have been intended for panfish.

So it’s a bit heavy? That’s interesting. So many Seki made knives are a bit more delicate and I don’t mean that in any way demeaning. I love Moki’s, but I wouldn’t use them for heavy tasks. Mcusta to my surprise, are a bit heavier and sturdier built for more heavy duty tasks.
Got my second Mcusta today. Here it is in the photos attached. It’s another in the MC-3 series. Same VG-10 core surrounded by Damascus stainless. The handle is also made of stainless. Not sure if it’s Damascus too. These fit so nicely in the leather pocket slip that comes w/ knives from Kniveshipfree. One hand opening, but closing takes two hands, unless you don’t mind cutting your thumb moving the liner lock.
These knives just feel great in your hand, very usable knives.

QS, I was extremely surprised to get this for 100 dollars on eBay. To my surprise when it arrived today there was a business card for the seller and it turns out he has a store here on AAPK, that made me feel a whole lot better about the quality of the purchase. 2 down 5 more to go. I’m loving these Mcustas.
