Not my pet, but my daughter's fiance's K-9 Cop dog. Meet Officer Tzalto, I think he is a Hungarian Shepherd. Both he and his human partner will retire in about a year and then he will become a pet.

Nice lookin dog Tom! ;)

I posted this photo on another thread here of this one so I thought I would ad a updated pic here too. He just turned one year old about two weeks ago and is a couple pounds shy of 110 lbs. My last two were under 85 lbs at the heaviest but I knew this one was gonna be a beast from the time I got him.

Gino: That is one sleek, handsome doggy. Question: How is the temperament? The dog's, not yours.

Thanks, he is pretty good for a young Dobe. He still runs all around and does everything a puppy does only he is a pretty big dog.
He is a great watch dog around my property though I can assure you that. He is like I used to be Big, Fast and Strong, LOL ;)

This is a picture of Bear, the dog involved in the stories in the "Mostly true Stories" thread. He came to me as a five month old who was bound for the dog pound if no one would take him. I always thought they were beautiful dogs. I saw my first Rottie years before they became popular in this country, in fact, I had to ask the owner what type of dog it was. I thought that the Rottweiler was what God had in mind when he created dogs. He was the best dog I ever had.

Gino,I had Dobermanns for twenty years, until my daughters decided we needed something less scaring for their friends.Your dog seems more like the German-line of Dobs, sturdier than the average American showtype, nice dog.Regards Gus.

Wow, thanks Gus. He does come from a German line of dobes. They are bread much larger with larger heads and are darker in color (same smart dogs though), thats cool you knew that. Its also very cool that you had some Dobes too. This is my 3rd one I have owned and he has brought me lots of fun and joy.

Gino,I'm Dutch,'our' Dobermanns are German-style,the only American Doobs I saw was on a international dog show. But I guess they all are the same caracter-wise.

When I was stationed in Germany we all noticed that the Dobies and Rotties were of a larger breed than the American ones. We called the Dobies Warlocks. I don't know where the name came from but it did seem appropriate. Beautiful dogs.

Gino your dog has grown into a magnificent specimen. Now, you may be well up on this subject, but just in case: Most of the dog treats come in from China. Not too long ago there were a lot of pet tragedies because of contamination of jerky treats. If you are making your own treats or otherwise sure of the source that's great.

As you know most pet dogs in the U.S. die of cancer. One theory holds that some of this is caused by herbicides, weed killers etc. used on lawns. The dogs inhale this stuff. Also get it on the pads of their feet where besides absorption they may lick at it.

I realize this is an unpleasant topic. Still, I hope all pet owners will be proactive on this.
