Thanks guys ::tu::

Jerry, I love it when a plan comes together. I had that knife set aside for you on my desk since April and forgot to send out the bomb, then when I read your post about the one you just bought and how much you liked them it reminded me to get off my butt and get that baby sent out to you!!

I don't think it was used much, it's well made and I am glad you like it! :D ::handshake::

Thank you Dimitri. That sounds like what I do.

Everyone should have a 14. It's the perfect size for your pocket (for me). Not too large, not too small, as Goldilocks said, it's just right. It's probably in the best condition of any I have, plus it's Camillus. I love it. ::tu::

What is it that makes us brand centric? GM vehicles, Camillus knives, Whirlpool appliances, etc, etc. I don't understand it but I can live with it.

I tend to target Case knives in non-traditional colors, so this one fits very nicely along with my Purple Haze Gunboat Canoe & 63032 stockman. The Copperlock Wharncliffe pattern is really a standout - lockup is above average, snap is stout and there's absolutely no lateral wobble - this is a fine knife by any standard. I've been fortunate to have been equally bombed twice ... this kind of generosity makes AAPK a special place. Thanks Q ::tu::

Right on, John...glad to hear it. Over the years I've learned that giving a knife to someone can be tricky. At first, I would give knives that were particularly special to me; but, I have discovered that the characteristics I like in a knife aren't necessarily always appreciated to the same degree by a recipient. Now when I give a knife away, I try to determine if it's something that will appeal to the person I'm giving it to. It's nice to know when I get one right.

Another bombing reported at Starvation Plantation!
The anonymous, generous bomber has dropped a Rough Rider RR1422 Cotton Sampler on me! Several RR's have come my way like this, that is anonymously. ::shrug:: I have found them to be solid knives knives and this one seems to be well made. I just made some comments in the Rough Rider Cotton Sampler thread started back in May.
Always "knice" to receive a knife unexpectedly! Thank you Mr. Anonymous. ::handshake::

About a week or so ago I unloaded one of my extra Purple Haze Copperlocks onto Lansky1. Well, he not only returned fire for my little bomb, he really cut loose with the heavy-duty, double-barreled artillery. I am totally blown away by this customized cherry red Ratcliffe he sent me without any warning whatsoever--total surprise. I've admired and coveted the Muskrat/Wharncliffe mod ever since he showed the first one he created on AAPK some time ago (and I know I'm not the only one). I can't believe I now have one of my very own. Thank you, John...I am overwhelmed by your generosity and honored to own one of your beautiful creations.

Lansky did you grind that yourself? Excellent mod, Wharn looks about factory to my eyes, great blade to have, not a Muskrat man even, but man that Ratcliffe is sweet. Very nice gesture. Congrats Q too, great score on that one, sweet bones too. Double hit. Some great people around here.

Look out fellers. There’s collateral damage here. My whole family has been hit! I got this in the mail today. I was expecting a knife, but man, that box was heavy. I opened it up and this is what I saw.

Oh, and tucked underneath all that was this one for me! I am floored, and I love love love it. It’s a 4 line Camillus cattle knife with culpepoer Catalina amber bone. This thing is slick! Thank you again mad bomber.

Ivoryman ... yep, the Case muskrat blade has a wharncliffe inside it, just waiting to come out - that blade is about perfect to grind out a wharncliffe profile.

How do you sneak attack? I have PM-ed and asked for an address, but even if you're coy they know something is coming. How do you do the radio silence true surprise attack where they don't even know it's coming?

Lansky, again great wharn from a Clip. Made them from spears and problem is you have to grind the edge away and put a new edge on the thick, meaty, middle of the blade. It's thicker there, not the same edge. You kept the original edge and changed the spine. Complete opposite. I like that, changing the spine profile is much less fraught with problems of grinding a new, thicker edge. I will have to try that, thanks for the idea and example to see first. You should do an educational mod vid on youtube. I have picked up many tips from watching youtube vids walk me through it first. Yours is a great mod and anyone with a grinder can do it.

Ivoryman,

In this case, I had Q's address from the shipping box he bombed me from ... I know what you mean though, if I didn't have that, I would have had to ask for his address, which limits the bomb yield.

As far as grinding the blade on a muskrat into a wharncliffe - it's really pretty simple - I just mark the lines with a thin permanent marker (see original post about it: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=52004&hilit=wharnrat ), I then lop off the excess with a dremel cutoff disc wheel, and use a stationary disc sander to grind it to the line. Then, it just takes time to file the curved edges into a radius and then I go through the sandpaper grits up to 1000 to get the curved edge to look like a factory finish. I tape the blade to prevent scratching the sides when manually using sandpaper. Last step is to Lansky the edge to tidy it up & get the perfect straight line cutting edge (I measure it against a straight edge to make sure it's perfectly straight, especially at the tip, as the tip on most factory wharncliffe's aren't crisp). It's a very simple process really - just takes time. Be sure to wear leather gloves when reshaping the blade on the grinder ...

What I figured, thanks. Appreciate all info and tips and pics. Funny to hear your take on gloves. I never use gloves on my grinder altering blades, or shaping metal, sharpening either. Don't wear them on the belt sander, drill press, Dremel etc. when carving and shaping ivory. Bare hands only. I like the sense of touch on the tricky stuff, and for me less screw ups in critical work. Interesting to hear your take. keep the Ratcliffes coming, it's a great knife. I'm on the look out for an older pretty bone Muskrat to try one. Thanks again.
