What is Your Latest Old Schrade?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

The WW2 back story is great too. Love stuff with history when you know some details. More meaningful. Thanks for sharing. ::tu::

Schrade walden 974 3” congress. Nice old knife, early Walden stamp and some great peachseed bone. I am fortunate to have a box for this pattern as well, they make a nice pair.

I picked up a couple of schrade cut barlows, a scarce 115S single blade with peachseed bone and a more common 2157 two blade with sawcut bone.

Hello Schraders,

The first knife from my weekend spending spree showed up today. It's an old Schrade Walden 808. The Tang stamp is pretty worn and hard to read. Especially the "Walden" is hard to read. But it reads...,

SCHRADE
WALDEN
NY USA
On the reverse side "808"

David, "rustyoldknife" was kind enough to send me some pictures of Schrade Tang stamps so that I can date this knife between 1948 and 1973. ::tu:: Thanks for your help in that David! ::handshake::

It was very crudy & had very little snap but 20-30 min. of cleaning & oiling the joints & springs & I am now the proud owner of a nice 808 HOK. ::groove:: The whole knife cleaned up real well. Blades are worn but have no wobble & the scales are in great condition. They don't appear to be bone or derlin. ::shrug:: The snap is not great but it did come back enough to make me very happy about my purchase. Here are some before and after pictures. First off, 5 before pictures. Followed by 5 after pictures. ::tu::

Thanks for looking friends! ::handshake:: :D

Just got back to town and this was waiting for me. And the glass was not broken! Took the Goodwife and I at least 20 minutes to unwrap it. Too bad I don't have any knives to put in it.

So glad that treasure arrived safe! That's like a Schrade pulpit. Worthy denizens will be sanctified.

You should try Schrade collecting! I hear it's a "thing".

Something tells me some dry humour was involved in that lamentation. :) Your collection is outstanding.
I don't always respond to great posts but I always appreciate seeing them. Thanks for posting! ::tu::

That's the place where I'd put the best of the best in my collection. It looks great!

Meanwhile, I'm currently using a generic pouch with Schrade embrodiery, made by Taylor that'll hold about two dozen. It's literally the only thing by Taylor in my collection.
