Doug, those are all just beautiful knives! The craftsmanship of HW is really great
You must be Herman's biggest client with all the wonderful knives he has done for you

Re: My latest Schrade
I want to thank all of you who have commented on these knives, it's great when fellow collectors show as much enthusiasm for these pattern and handle combinations as I do. Herman truly appreciates you comments too. As for being Herman's biggest client... he was customizing Schrades for many years before I bought my first one from him, and while I have a good sized collection of his knives, I've heard him speak of other collectors that have way more. Like all of us, Herman isn't getting any younger, but as long as he wants to work on knives, I'll be a steady customer. Wait until you see the bottle opener he just finished for me. It's not a Schrade so I'll be posting the pictures in the General Forum....hopefully on Monday
Thanks again,
Doug
Thanks again,
Doug

It's taken a bit of time to get the brass all polished but she's looking good now...a matching serial number WWII set....building a display frame is next on the list.

Re: My latest Schrade
Yes it was. In the description it says the Bowie is 10" long, that is incorrect....it is 11" long. It came with the case, paperwork, video and white gloves....none of which I got. The MSRP was $2500 and the Bowie could be bought seperately for $900KnifeSlinger#81 wrote:Doug was the WW2 set a factory production?

Re: My latest Schrade
Thanks for the good words. This set is the reason I recently sold my WWII Bowie for $20 less than what I paid for it...It still paid for nearly half the price of this set. I was pretty nervous. I kept thinking, what if this Bowie has a scratch on the blade that didn't show in the pics, what if something is wrong with one of the lockbacks...sure I could return this set but I'd still be out the Bowie I sold. It all worked out and I'm as happy as you'd expect

Re: My latest Schrade
Doug,
That is a fine set. I have the full set, as it was produced for sale to the public. I love them and they hang proudly in my Knife Room! Now I understand why you were selling the Single Bowie....upgrading to the full set. Good for you that it all worked out.
Thank you for sharing!
Tom

Craftsman 9552, (897UH). My other one went in my pocket before this one came in the mail. Gotta love these "Slenderinos"!

Re: My latest Schrade
This Schrade Cut Co. Cattle knife was recently acquired from esteemed AAPK member Tom olderdogs1. I'm a Cattle knife collector - not a Schrade collector. I'd be grateful for any education that can be provided regarding:
1. Pattern number. Is it a S8373? See catalog page below. The catalog picture shows a punch instead of pen blade and a spey instead of a sheepsfoot. The length is 3 5/8". I would imagine this knife was made in several blade configurations, but would be grateful for comments.
Edit: Thanks to Paul knifeslinger the correct pattern is SS8173
2. Does the SS stamped on the back tangs indicate Stainless Steel?
Edit: SS does indicate Stainless Steel per the catalog picture shared by Paul
This knife oozes quality workmanship.

Re: My latest Schrade
Wow that is an incredible example. I must say I'm a bit envious of that one. Here it is in the 1926 catalog. Stainless schrade cuts were made in fairly small numbers, they aren't very common. Neither are any schrade cut cattle knives in that good of shape for that matter. I guess they were a popular pattern

Paul, many thanks for the correct catalog picture.
I will edit my original post to correct the pattern number.

Jerry that is a nice knife, looks like my Wester Bros USA. Mine is carbon and has a punch, and older bone. I think.

Recently I got an interesting Imperial scout-type knife. Allsteel, closed 3.7".
Can you help me identify and date it? Any information is interesting.

Hi Tom!
This is interesting information, but I still have questions about dating and the meaning of the letters "RX"

RX (usually written ℞) is a common abbreviation for medical prescriptions.

Many thanks!
So it's an "apothecary knife", not an advertising knife. Cool!

It likely was a knife given by a pharmaceutical rep to pharmacists.
