All About Pocket Knives

This one is pretty old, 1841-? Lyman Bradley of Connecticut. Fairly scarce I have only seen one other in person and only a handful altogether. If anyone has an example would love to see it.

I am lucky enough to own 2 L. Bradley's , both Pruners and with the same tang stamp as yours.

Those are pretty sweet. Thanks for posting them. I had some other rare pruners at one time but traded them. You can probably guess what I traded them for. Managed to hang on to a couple though.

Not too recently, this pocket knife arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I bought. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. It is a VAN CAMP 708, two blades, one tool (a punch or awl), two tang stamps, 3 1/2" closed, two springs, cattleman, pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade tang stamp says, "VAN CAMP (over) USA" The main blade back tang stamp says, "708" (the pattern #) The shield is a replacement shield, it is NOT original to the knife. The main blade does NOT have a half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does have an OK closing snap. The secondary blade does have a WEAK half stop. The secondary blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The secondary blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The tool does open and close properly, without any issues. Overall, this pocket knife is in FAIR+ condition. This pocket knife did require some VERY minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

even your giveaway "708" clue derailed me, finding a Primble Belknap HDW & Co having similar jigging, a long straight nick and 708 stamped on the tang and from a hardware retailer.
search 708 knife on the auction block, its still there.

LOUIS" The main blade has a CRISP half stop. The main blade has a GOOD opening snap. The main blade has a GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade has a VERY CRISP half stop. The secondary blade has a NASTY opening snap. The secondary blade has a NASTY closing snap. Both the main blade and the secondary blade have seen some use. This pocket knife is in FAIR+ condition. This pocket knife did need some cleaning.

A few days ago, my visit to the post office produced this lobster or gentlemans', pattern or style of pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my general, pocket knife accumulation. It is an ORANGE CUTLERY COMPANY, one blade, one tool (a file with a blade tip), two tang stamps, 3" closed, lobster or gentlemans', pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "ORANGE (over) CUT. CO. (over) WALDEN, N.Y." The tool front/back tang stamp (worn) said, "ORANGE (over) CUT. CO. (over) WALDEN, N.Y." The main blade does have a SOFT half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The tool does have a SOFT half stop. The tool does have an OK opening snap. The tool does have a GOOD closing snap. Both handle sides have cracks in the scales. These cracks do NOT bother me. As a precaution against possible outgassing, I have isolated this pocket knife. Overall, this pocket knife is in FAIR condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

It is a W.M ELLIOT & Cᴏ̲, one blade, one tool (a corkscrew), one tang stamp, 4 3/4" closed, lever lock, "Deer Foot", pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "W.M ELLIOT & Cᴏ̲ (over) AUSTRIA" This is my third "Deer Foot", pattern or style of pocket knife. My other two, "Deer Foot" pocket knives, were both previously posted, under this topic or thread. The main blade does NOT have a half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The corkscrew opens and closes, with NO issues. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

So here is a new one for this old timer. An extremely well-made knife. Nickel silver scales and the blades almost seemed to have bluing of some sort. No doubt carbon steel. Its stamped HARRODS LTD with there address in London. Sheffield England elsewhere and small stamp AD. I found that the AD Stood for Allen and Darwin of England. They seemed to be mostly fruit knives and table ware so maybe they didn't make it but contracted out then sold to Harrods the high-end end department store of London. Its turn of the century. I originally had this for sale in my AAPK store but have since pulled it as I kept looking at closely and decided it needed a worthy home. Please if anyone has any thoughts or additional info, please share

The main blade front tang stamp says, "NEWBURGH (over) (N Y) (over) KNIFE CO" The secondary blade front tang stamp says, "NEWBURGH (over) (N Y) (over) KNIFE CO" Besides the tang stamp(s) and or the handle stamp(s) on ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knives, this is definitely the ONLY other pocket knife that I have seen, where "NEWBURGH, N.Y." is on the blade(s) tang stamp(s), AND NOT as an advertisement or as part of an advertisement on a pocket knife. I can NOT find any other markings, anywhere. I have NO evidence that leads me to believe that Newburgh EVER had more than ONE cutlery or knife company, and that ONE cutlery or knife company WAS the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY (1917-1925). So, what cutlery or knife company manufactured this pocket knife? I do NOT know. What country did this pocket knife originate in? Probably the U.S.A. Again, I do NOT know for sure. Extensive and exhaustive searching has produced absolutely NO results at all. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD half stop. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade does have a VERY GOOD half stop. The secondary blade does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. The secondary blade does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

When I received this as a gift I was spellbound. Then I opened it and was chestfallen when I saw the main blade had apparently been broken off and re-profiled. I say apparently because I keep telling myself that the blade was built that way. Everyone needs to believe in something.

It is an Autopoint, two blades, one tang stamp, 3 1/8" closed, one spring, advertising, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "Autopoint (written) (over) CHICAGO (over) USA" The main handle side says, "COASTAL PLAINS SUPPLY CO. - DALLAS-PR-3906-PR-1377" The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did need some very minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

It is a GRIFFON XX, two blades, four tang stamps, 3 1/8" closed, one spring, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "griffon (written, underlined) (over) XX (over) B' PORT. CT." The main blade back tang stamp is the image of a "Griffon" The secondary blade front tang stamp says, "griffon (written, underlined) (over) XX (over) B' PORT. CT." The secondary blade back tang stamp is the image of a "Griffon" The main blade does have a GOOD half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade does have a GOOD half stop. The secondary blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The secondary blade does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. Despite having a hairline fracture in the one handle or scale, this pocket knife is still in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.
