I’d say Yes on the Boker being a LoomFixer as long as it is close to the correct dimensions.

The single blade KA-BAR with the shackle is what I’d call a rope knife.

Like many things in the (pocket) knife world, this pattern confuses me a little.
I've seen these knives called Whalers, rope knives, half hawks, sheep foot knives and yes, even loom fixers. ::shrug::

Its not you who are confused, its the people using those names incorrectly that are confused.

A LoomFixer is a very specific pattern.

A New England Whaler looks like a LoomFixer, but usually a little smaller, sometimes with a lanyard hole. KA-BAR did mark some LoomFixers as New England Whaler see Gunsils on page 2.

A HalfHawk is what ROUGH RYDER calls their LoomFixer……

A rope knife is a less specific pattern with a large sheepsfoot blade and a shackle. Could be called a Whaler, but not a New England Whaler.

All the knives in that picture are rope knives. I probably should not have posted it in this thread. I wanted to show Jimbo how the KA-BAR he posted compared to other rope knives.

Of course a manufacturer can mark a handle with any name they want. Does that mean they are right? Remington for example had a New England Whaler that does not fit my definition.

Eveled, thanks for the definition and clearing that up on loomfixers! I won’t make that mistake again unless my old age kicks in, ha!

I enjoyed seeing your knives, they have some character. Great knives. I’m sure they could fix a loom if we needed them too. Happy New Year friend.

Interesting discussion on knife taxonomy – Loomfixer, or Sailor’s Rope?

Add Schrade to KA-BAR and Remington as a manufacturer that produced a sheepsfoot-bladed knife on which was written, “New England Whaler”, that were clearly Sailor’s Rope knives, except for the lack of a bail (shackle).

The Schrade example appears on page 169 of Levine’s GUIDE, 3rd Edition.

Treefarmer’s Case XX 6217 “Loomfixer” has remarkable handle covers.

I once had a Case ten dot 6217, that is, a bail-less “Loomfixer”. It was pristine mint, with beautiful red bone; and like a jerk I traded it out, because, oh, it was not “sea-going” enough.

The knives I continually remember having moved out I always regret having moved out.

There is one listed in one of the stores here I couldn’t remember if I already had it. So I figured I needed a new group shot in my phone. Might as well post it here too.

Eveled, that’s a great loomfixer gathering you have there! A guy I worked with years ago would only carry a case hawkbill or a case loomfixer. When asked why the big blades, he would always say, it’s to keep the wolves off! ::shrug::

And chances are, it worked. I'll bet he was never attacked by a wolf!
