Re: Vintage Mother Of Pearl (MOP) Knives
Great knives folks, keep them coming. Here is one that I believe to be rare. Marked HAYNES over STELLITE on both blades. Goins listed it from 1910 thru 1922. Stellite is a cobalt chromium alloy developed in 1898 1899 by Elwood Haynes of Kokomo Indiana. He made the stellite for the blades and springs in his lab that was in a barn in his backyard, and they were sold by mail order. Elwood Haynes also held the patent for stainless steel. I could not get a picture of the backspring, but it has a luster like nothing I have seen. John Goins gave it a half page in his last book.
An uncontrolled accumulator.

One more to add... a nice George Buttler penknife with a wavy backspring. Made circa 1930s to 50s I suspect.

S-K,
That is very unusual to see the file in the backspring
I think the spring on the scissors is a replacement.
Still a very nice knife, thanks for showing it

Thanks MB. yes, the spring very well could be a replacement. Seems to work well though.
This fish knife with silver blade dates to 1875. The handle is a single piece of mop.

Re: Vintage Mother Of Pearl (MOP) Knives
Thanks TJ.
....I remember when I hated MOP knives...because of how easy they were to crack or chip..(had a few bad experience's)..but now I have gotten over my phobia..and love'm.
Sadly,I had gotten rid of quite a few....still have around 30.

A little wostenholm penknife. The Firth stainless blades date it to mid 1920-to late 1930s period.
