My favorite brand and style of Water Pump pliers.

I cleaned this mini vice up enough to see that it's green and reads: MADE IN USA

Here's something I picked up a few weeks ago. It's a 1967 vintage Coleman one burner stove with a drum that clips on to radiate heat. Both pieces were in their original boxes.

From the late 50's till the early 70's, my dad (center) built dirt track stockers. The man on the right was the owner and part time driver, the one on the left was the lead driver. Both men were named Howard. Through those years, as a team, they averaged 6 wins out of every 10 races they entered. (Howard on the left, got more kisses from pretty little trophy girls then any feller i've ever known, the man was a local legend!! ) Both cars were equipped with 289 Ford engines that dad built out in our garage. Their main competition was the fella that owned the local salvage yard. He normally ran big block Chevy motors, but just couldn't get the snap that those little 289's would deliver on the 1/4-3/8 mile tracks they were running on.
I spent many a summer night at those local tracks watching those cars burn up the dirt. I even got to take quite a few rides while the cars were being checked out and warmed up before the races. Eventually, lead driver Howard pushed a little too hard going into turn number 3 one night. He broke a couple of vertibrae and the glory days 98 and 98 jr. were over.
I still remember the sights, sounds and smells of those cars and racetracks to this day! Fond memories and exciting times!!

That's a cool pic WB--we don't have any dirt tracks close by any more but that was always a fun going to dirt tracks on the weekend

In the late 80's to early 90's my Buddy raced road bikes all over the place. We visited dirt tracks at many of them! Rose Bowl Raceway in Tyler, TX comes to mind.

A little further on his brother had a "bomber" that he drove with some success in Houston.

We've got one of those nose rings around here some place. When my son was showing a large (2200lbs) Santa Gertrudis bull in the youth fair many years ago, he had to have that ring in the bull's nose, so if he got rowdy you could get his attention. The fair officials even required that I be in the arena with him, just in case ....That bull was the most gentle animal we ever had. You just brought back a 25 year old memory, thanks for showing the detachable nose ring .

As a colledtor of many things I never know what I will come across in my travels. Today I went to our local fall festival and found a knife(for story see Knife Lore forum under knives with jigged bone handles)and this sign.
Being a sign artist(supposedly retired but working just as much as ever)I like to pick up vintage hand-painted signs if they aren't too big or expensive to decorate my shop. This one fit both categories.
What struck me about it was the time someone had put into creating the raised lettering and the representations of the sextant(?)and telescope.Strangely enough the word,"Navigation" was minus the first letter and it did not appear that it ever was on there. It looks as though it was made some time ago and while I don't know whether it was an actual business(so far my research has turned up nothing).If it was done by a professional sign artist,they were likely in the early stages of their career.
Whatever the case it makes a nice wall hanging for $12.

The nose ring was at one time referred to as a "chit" or more properly a "bull chit".

Marketed with the bull chit was also an item known as a "bull chit protector" that actually protected the bull's nasal septum from severe irritation or perforation.

Boy, could we not use a little bull chit protection these days.

BTW; this is not an attempt at making a pun. Bull chit and bull chit protectors were both listed in old Sears-Roebuck catalogs.

Found this little hand grinder on our quest for green glass and old knives last week. It has a stamp on the flat metal of the crank, "Made in Germany". The stone is 3" X 11/16". Wonder what all this little thing has sharpened and/or ruined over the years? Even as small as this thing is, it would be a 2 man operation to sharpen almost anything, unless this is a specialized tool .

IMHO...The ORIGINAL "SCALES" The whole thing was chipped (knapped) to get the form... Then rough edges rubbed down with a rougher stone....
This stone is VERY hard and one of the many different stones the Indians here in Comanche County used...

Here's is where all my pocket knife funds have gone. Had to have this large water oak removed, we had built a deck around this tree 29 years ago when I built our house. Sure changed the looks of things in one day!
