Re: Knife Photography
This is high praise, I appreciate it my friend. Sometimes I feel like I didn't do enough teaching in a day but I always think, at least we were out side today
I was outside yesterday and I found this one in a tree
That's my Etsy store where I sell old knives and sometimes handmade knife accessories to support my knife habbit. Thanks for looking my friend.

Sas,
*I wonder if there are any out of focus black & white photographs to document any of those trips?

So all of the other photographers are out of town? On vacation? Out of film?

Thanks. The eBay seller said bone. Is there a way to tell for sure. I once read that a hot pin would be a test.

Re: Knife Photography
Indeed a red hot pin or needle will tell you, the odor of burnt bone is quite different from burnt plastic/synthetic. However that method will leave a scar on the handle material. A method I have used in the past is to gently tap the handle against your teeth, you can feel the difference between bone (much harder) and synthetic. It's old school but it works most of the time. Also, if you look closely bone has a grain to it and most synthetic doesn't.

There was a bear at the park today
Also a little peanut and the Dad knife. Only snapped a few pictures before a few normies strolled up.
They did that thing where they see me watching my kids so they assume I'll watch their's and sat and chatted together while their child was unsupervised. I will keep everyone safe, but I will not be in charge of your kid. I watched happily as my crew worked together to build a sand road and the rogue child laid down and buried herself with sand

Re: Knife Photography
I don't really have any "monster knives" to march in Squach's October parade, and no kids to take to a park where photo ops abound, so I'll just have to stick with my normal size cutlery and look for photo ops to present themselves in my daily routine
I am enjoying taking out knives I normally never carry and trying to find ways to photograph them in otherwise mundane settings.

Re: Knife Photography
It's a wonder the "normies" didn't freak out that you hade knives on a playground. The generations coming up behind me seem to be insanely obsessed with "safety". Did their kid have knee pads, elbow pads, helmet, and steel toe shoes on?ThatWeirdKnifeGuy wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 5:08 pm There was a bear at the park today![]()

Got nice photos there. That last one looks like an old military mess kit knife with a paracord handle. Interesting.

Mundane settings in Hawaii??? Give me a break! Living in a tropical paradise can only be mundane if you let it be. It's all a matter of perception. There are photo ops everywhere you just have to be in the right frame of mind to spot them. I might have walked by a tree stump or pile of rocks a hundred times without giving it a second thought. Then one day walking the same trail past the same tree stump or pile of rocks the sun is leaking down through the foliage at just the right angle or a light rain has caused them to glisten a bit and voila a photo op is born. It's only at that point that I think of how many times I have passed up that opportunity because I wasn't looking at it the right way. Your photos are always well done and a pleasure to view.
