Great choice. That 2921 is a real class act. I'm very partial to the Black Box Winchesters. Queen did an outstanding job on them.

Thanks, Jerry! It was a combination of the size, half stops, and extended wrap-around backspring on the pen blade that put the Coffin Jack in first place.jerryd6818 wrote:Great choice. I think i paid a little more than $8 for this 3" ivory Tuxedo pattern marked Pratt & Co Buffalo. Pre 1891 import ? or USA made ? As far as i know there was no Pratt, manufacturer of knives. Sweet little knife that nobody but me wanted.

And here is an imitation ivory pen knife, 2 7/8", marked: Simmons/HardwareCo/Germany with a hornet on back tang. I believe it to be vintage.

Is that the #26? I have that same knife if so. It's my fanciest medium stockman and one of the best, though on review I think I can see what you mean by "soft" half-stop (my standards for half-stops are also high but I don't prioritize a lack or non-snappy half-stop as much as I do certain other traits of a knife -- except on Barlows).Quick Steel wrote:The second knife is a Queen Stockman done up in Buffalo Horn. A very attractive piece. The only minor quibble is that the master blade is unsure about its' half stop, i.e a bit on the weak side. By contrast the other two blade half stops are decisive.
Looks like a keeper, k98k!ken98k wrote:A 1965-69 6235 1/2

Some that arrived this past week. 1. A U.S. Marbles for Ducks Unlimited. 2. A Col. Coon Barlow with the F&F I have come to expect from a CC. 3. A bonus Barlow [Roy Rogers]accompanying the Marbles from stagman. This will make a very good using knife: sharp, firm half stops, solidly made.

That Marbles has one fine looking blade on it. A happy little skinner indeed.
The Roy Rogers Barlow... Is that a newer reproduction or is that an original old knife?
I've been debating on getting into those type of knives (TV show ad knives) but I'm still on the fence.

Ken, The Roy Rogers knife is China made so it is a newer production. Just learned here the other day that Schrade [U.S.] made a series of Coyboy knives. It would be knives like these classics that you would most likely be interested in. The only "brand" on mine is the word Barlow.

My Simmons Hornet knife is lost at bottom of previous page. Anyone able to confirm vintage, not one of the repros from ? 1980's ?
And post above that one "Pratt & Co Buffalo" import pre 1891 ? or USA knife ?
thanks, k.j.

Schrade made a knife commemorating the cowboy ( I think it was a stockman but maybe something else). However Camillus made a whole series of very cool knives commemorating the various Hollywood cowboys like Roy Rogers, Lone Ranger, Hopalong Cassidy, Red Ryder, etc.-- quite a bunch, and they are top notch. However, I have read that the celluloid or other composite material used in them could be unstable. I would not regard that as gospel, however. Good luck with your search!Quick Steel wrote:Ken, The Roy Rogers knife is China made so it is a newer production. Just learned here the other day that Schrade [U.S.] made a series of Coyboy knives. After closer examination, I noticed the 6235 1/2 that I posted yesterday is not a 1965-69.
It is a 9 dot, therefore a 1971. I like it just as much. Easily sharpened to a razor edge and straight into my pocket,

Nice Case Ken. Are the blades difficult to open? I had one (late 70's) and gifted it away as I could barely open the pen. OH
