Ode To The 07

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Wonder if all the Case-Carhartt pocketknives share the "as ground" blade finish with the "new grind" tang - that is a very interesting look. OH

Interesting question, Colonel. I checked and of the four that I know of, all blades are "as ground" and all have what looks very much like the "new grind". Poor picture on #4 so it's difficult to tell but it's the same as the other three.

Would that be the newer varieties, John? Because my 2001 Mini-Copperhead doesn't have blades like that. On the other hand, the 2007 Tony Bose Saddle Horn I gave away to commemorate my 20,000th post, does have newish grind blades. ::undecided:: ::shrug::

Thanks for the feedback Jerry. Too many ground that way to be random, got a Platinum dealer on the way to Fayetteville, going to stop by and have a look soon. OH

Classy Greg. Careful, they're almost as addicting as the 72s and there's a hair of a lot more variations/handle colors/materials, plus they're more expensive. ::uc::

Nice ones, John. I'm especially drawn to that second one with the XX blade stamp and 'backwards' bomb shield...First time I've ever seen that model (is that a 2011 release?). Very cool.

I don't know about the single blade Sowbelly or Trapperlock patterns, but the only Mini Copperheads with New Grind blades were released in the early-mid 1980s (most NG mini coppers were released in 1984 & 1985). And not all Mini Cs from those years were New Grinds, just some...and to the best of my knowledge, none of them had "as ground" blades...all were polished SS.

Just compared with the tang stamp chart, that's 2016.

Oh, I misread the (partially visible?) tang stamp...However, unless there's another "x" on the bottom row hiding under the bolster, it must be a 2017, right? (I can only see three "x")

No. Because of the way they did it, there was just one year with only two X's on the top row so it can't be anything other than 2016. Refer to the chart below and it will all become clear.

Ah, got it. So, there must indeed be another "x" (not visible in John's photo) hiding under the bolster.
Other than dots before x's, I can never remember the order of dot/x removal (which is why we have reference charts, duh!).

John, I'm curious about the blades (shoulder grind and finish) on that Carhartt Mini Copper. Does it have that semi-new grind shoulder and "as ground" finish?

Thanx,

Case 2016 Mini-Trapper 10207SS Blue Kirinite was in todays mail. I had a little trouble getting one but I'm happy with it. It looks better in hand than in my pathetic pictures. One more Carhartt coming on Thursday, then I think it's about time to pull back on the reins and unsaddle this horse for a while.
