A lot of the old timers swear by Kroil Oil. They say nothing better will ever be made. I have bought some along with the other products already mentioned and honestly I don't think there is a big difference. I would go with what's on sale. I think Kroil Oil might be a tad cheaper by volume? Definitely mineral oil would be towards the bottom for blades, but works great on stag handles.

Kroil if there is rust or crud inside that I want to dissolve (or to help break a stuck tang nut free), quick release if I want to improve snap, 3-in-1 oil for normal ongoing "curating" of knives that already have good snap (because I'm cheap).

I just use 3in1 oil; cheap, available everywhere, a can lasts forever, doesn't collect a lot of dirt and lint and I like the machine oil smell. My EDC is a simple Buck Canoe and occasionally a USA Old Timer 34OT or small Buck frame lock so I don't feel the need for expensive specialty oils.

The worst oil I ever used in a knife was Mineral Oil, too thick and collected way too much dirt and lint.

One key point. Don’t use too much! Oils have the drawback of “collecting” debris such as lint, dust and dirt. So use just a drop in the joint and work it in well, then wipe off any excess.

Which brings us to a favorite of mine called Tuf-glide. The manufacturer, Sentry Solutions, says it’s a proprietary dry lubricant which is in a mineral spirits carrier. It’s applied as a liquid, then the mineral spirits quickly evaporate, leaving behind the dry lubricant and corrosion (rust) inhibitor. Tuf-glide was developed under government contract for use by the military in harsh dusty environments (Iraq) where oil-based lubricants failed. Molybdenum disulfide, graphite, and PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) are some of the better known dry lubricants. I’ve found Tuf-glide, when used as directed, to be an excellent product. It’s biggest drawback for many users is, once applied and the carrier has evaporated, you can’t see it - some folks can’t abide on faith alone. I’ve used it on knives, fishing tackle, and firearms for years. It works.

My "lubricant of choice" for many years has been Marvel Mystery Oil. I use it for preserving my very expensive pinstriping and lettering brushes(sometimes mixed with a bit of a/c compressor oil) and it makes a nice light lubricant for knife pivots. It rinses out with mineral spirits easily so it won't contaminate my paint which makes for easy cleaning of knives as well. Just my preference;I'm sure all the aforementioned products work equally as well.

Nano-Oil, Rust Free from A.G. Russell and I use to use Coon P Oil from SMKW.
When my Nano-Oil runs out I am going to try the Quick Release oil, I’ve read a lot of good information on that here.

I use Kroil for crusty old knives. Best penetrating oil available.
Gets in deep, then compressed air will blow out junk you didn't even know was there.

For the joints I use Tuf-glide. Like Ken said, it dries 'dry'
so no wet stuff to attract lint n' such.

I use Quick Release on the pivots and Ballistol on the blades and handles. I use ballistol on my guns too, it’ll actually emulsify with water and still lubricate and protect. It’s a wonderful cleaner too. But nothing lubricates like Quick Release.

But for heavy cleaning, rust, crud, etc nothing beats Kroil. It’s not a great lubricant, but it penetrates deep.

A little off topic, but if you shoot shotguns much, soak them inside of the barrel with kroil then chuck a cleaning rod and brass brush in a drill and go back and forth in the barrel. You’d be amazed what comes out of a “clean” looking barrel.

Dale also gave me some quick release and it works great. Before that I used Gunslick. I don't use any petroleum based oil on knives with celluloid handles. I can't prove it's necessary but I still don't use it. Thanks

A little bit does go a long way. I use it on so many things, I finally ran low enough that I ordered a new bottle and a new Tuf-cloth. This new Tuf-cloth came in a small jar with a lid on it instead of a re-sealable foil pouch. The pouch is handy because it’s flat, but the little jar drops right into my range bag. I think you can order them both ways.

I have been using 3 in 1 oil and lucas gun oil ( use the gun oil for blade coat on knives I put up) I ordered some quick release from Latama Cutlery website got it in 2 days - only applied to two folders so far (works well) - ordered Tuf Glide off ebay like the dry finish idea - be a few days before comes in - I will give review comparison - Thanks for the good info --Clint

On a serious note though, I've used 3-in-1 oil since dirt was clean because..... my grandpa did. It's what he used for knife pivots, sharpening stones, nut lubrucating on equipment, etc. If it needed oil 3-in-1 was the ticket. Cheap, available everywhere and a can lasted for ever. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that his last can is still out in the old workshop or equipment shed somewhere. Both places are a mess and on the very long list of buildings to be cleaned out, with the old shop to be torn down and replaced with a canning kitchen.

Is it the best? No idea.
Does it work? Yup.
Besides, something about the smell, like the smell of Hoppes No. 9, that is just right.

I started buying Remoil and Winchester oil when I was in the gun/ammo crazy buying mode in 2011. I have read reports and Remoil/Winchester oil where both are ranked for the lowest for performance. Neither are made by the company. Winchester was the worst , most of the oil was still stuck in the spray can and I shot the spray can at the local outdoor gun range . Synthetic lubricates out perform petroleum products every time. You get what you pay for. Lucas products have been proven top quality since 1890s. I buy Lucas Extreme Synthetic from Brownells and Brownells needle oilers. I barely pump the needle oiler bottle slightly about 10 times and a tenth of a drop comes out . I use the Lucas 8oz bottle for pumping a bigger amount in a liner track on the bigger knives. Lucas oil is thick and it works so well on my cowboy revolvers , AR-15 , and knives. I put a drop or two on a Brownells or Pro-shot round gun patch and it does the whole outside of my revolver. I need some more Pro-shot round gun patches from Tombstone Tactical. Remoil is cheap stuff and I don't like it on my skin or my guns. I gave a full can of Remoil away. I love Lucas Products . You get what you pay for. I just cleaned 200 folders. Three days and two cuts later , I used about a tenth of an 8oz bottle of Lucas Extreme. I just brought two 8oz bottles of Lucas Extreme , I wish I could of bought a gallon of it. Will buy some Quick Release in early 2021. I am so glad I read this thread.
Ohhh , I forgot . I lost all my guns in a boating accident ! Lucas makes a red oil "no smell" for hunters too.
