Camillus 72 Clones

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Yesterday I added this 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, Craftsman 9494 "whittler" to my Camillus 72 variation collection. It's missing the shield, but I ordered some and I'll replace it. I gave the blades a very light cleaning. The last two pictures are of a Craftsman 9494 tang stamp punch tool. Did it make the tang stamp on my knife? Maybe it did, anything is possible.

Thank you Floyd, I like having this combination. Displaying them together is a challenge. I wish I could find a Camillus 72 stamp. :D ::tu::

Yesterday I added this 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, Schrade 863 "whittler" to my Camillus 72 variation collection. It is my fourth Schrade "863" pattern. I'm still looking for the Schrade "Walden" 863 to add to the collection. I gave this knife a very minor cleaning on the blades. The last picture is of the knife with "repairs" to the clip blade. The pictures are mine. Click on a picture to ENLARGE.

Looks to be in excellent condition except for the small clip blade being tipped. That can be re-profiled with a little elbow grease and some patience.

I was thinking of leaving it the way it is. But I bought a hobby drill kit and this is a good opportunity to test it out. I reshaped the blade so that it has a point. It is the last picture in the original post. While not perfect, it does look slightly better than it did. ::shrug::

I bought these 2 pocket knives today. Another Craftsman 9494, yes, a Camillus 72 variation (first 2 pictures) and a 3 blade, swelled center, wood handles, 3 5/8" closed, "whittler" by Rite Edge (China) (last 2 pictures, bottom picture is distorted). Is it a Camillus 72 variation? In my opinion, yes it is. I will verify the closed length when I receive it. Except for a tiny crack in the handle, this Craftsman 9494 looks good. When I receive it, I will give it the once over. The Rite Edge is new/mint in the box. I will post MY pictures in the appropriate location(s). These pictures are the seller's.

I just purchased my fifth, 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, Shrade 863 "whittler" pocket knife. But unlike the other four, this one has "WALDEN" as part of the tang stamp. My first and only, so far, Schrade "WALDEN" 863 pattern. It looks like the blades have seen some use. I'll give it the once over when I receive it. I'll post MY pictures in the appropriate location(s). These pictures are the seller's.

I received this pocket knife yesterday, another Craftsman 9494. Yes, another Camillus 72 variation. I gave the blades a minor, gentle cleaning. There is a tiny crack in the handle, but overall, I'm quite pleased with this addition to my collection. These pictures are mine.

Hi Jerry. No, I don't think so. The Schrade Walden that I just bought but don't have yet, I'm pretty sure it's the only Schrade Walden that I have.

Then there's one more for you to keep an eye out for. Looks like this. Bone handles. Made 1953-1962. As you can see, they changed the shield at some point.

Today, this pocket knife joined the Camillus 72 variation family. Another Schrade 863, but my first Schrade "WALDEN" 863 pattern "whittler." I cleaned up the blades just a bit. I thought that the Rite Edge, not pictured here but pictured 7 posts above, was another potential Camillus 72 variation. I've checked it thoroughly and have decided that it isn't, it's just a 3 5/8" closed, stockman pattern. These pictures are mine. Click on a picture to ENLARGE.

This one showed up in my mailbox yesterday. It's a gift from "Doglegg". The figure on the shield looks familiar but there are no tang stamps. Possibly (probably) made by Paki Stan or his Chinese cousin. Who ever made it and where ever it's from, it's appreciated Floyd.

You are most welcome Jerry. ::handshake::

Fished this little KeenKutter out of the bay the other day. Not a functionally great example but will feel at home with its cousins. Blades have to be closed in a certain order or they rub.

Wish we had more American knives for sale over here in Germany. ::pray:: Don't often find what pleases the eye & if you do, you can be sure it pleases a lot of other eyes as well so it won't go for a fair price. Ok enough complaining, sorry, great knife. ::handshake::
