Oh, that's just the list of knives I use to own I want to reclaim. There are other lines/brands I have a fetish for that are sure to impact my bank account.

John, that looks like a cross between the size of a coping blade and the profile of a Sheepsfoot blade. What shall we call it? Maybe a "shoping" blade?

That's a good deal for your 7OT. I think that box is mid 1980's time frame, but someone please correct me if i am wrong. I'm sure in inflation adjusted dollars you paid much less than the original owner.
I have about 40 LB7's which is basically the same knife and i think these are one of the best USA production folders of all time.

Along with a few OTs and couple of UHs I use to own, which I made it a New Year's resolution to reacquire, wanted to find a couple of Imperial Barlows that were my first knives as a young kid. Had 2 or 3 plain jane Barlows and had one with the "New Holland" advert on it. Found a supposedly 60's production Barlow on feebay that was described as NOS. I let my emotions get the best of me and I probably paid too much at 50 duckies. It came in today and it gives me an uneasy feeling it may be a reproduction or fake. It's cheaply made, which is what I remember of those old Barlows even though it has been 40+ years since I held one in my hand. However, some things don't settle to well with me. I remember the spey blade having like patent #s, and this one don't. The tang marking on the clip blade seems too shallow. Thought the handles, although cheap plastic, were solid. These appear to be hollow shells. And... it just seems too pristine.

What y'all think? Should I be exercising my "not as described" right, or be happy I got the real thing?

I also found a New Holland version I picked up for less than 15 Georges. It's advertised as 'unused' but not mint. Haven't gotten it in yet, but from the pics it has what I assume are pat#s on the spey.

Those both look legit to me, but I do not think the NOS one is quite as old as the 60's. I'm not gonna say I would pay $50 for one, but we all have different knives that are important to us in some way that we would pay a high price to have them. I know that I have. Here's mine for comparison, they look the same to my eye. Yours is definitely NOS, I can see the green dried up oil on the pivots that I see on every NOS imperial.

Thanks KS... your's definitely looks identical to mine other than the blade patina. Makes me feel better. Guess I don't mind overspending if it is the real deal, and is new like fresh inventory. Here is a pic of the 1/2 doz vendor pack it supposedly came in. Does it give a clue as to its date of manufacture?

The secondary on these Imperial Barlows is a pen blade, not a spey.
The box has a ZIP in the address so after 1967.

Here are 3 pictures showing most of my LB7's in a deep drawer. The rolling tool chest is 55" long x 42" high x 18" deep. The lower right drawer is the LB7 department. I might have under estimated with "40". The 2nd picture shows this tool chest along with one of my 2 gun safes, and another smaller tool chest (all Schrade) and a few knife rolls/cases all full.
My collection is different from the well organized display of pristine boxed knives that shown by many established collectors. My collection has a few such examples but is mostly made up of used knives, most are vintage, older than 1970 and from a range of USA manufacturers with examples of many patterns.
Mix them all together, stir or shake well and voila, my collection !

P.S. the above picture is of my living room, the central room in this somewhat small house. It is not a 'rec room' altho it is a bit of a wreck.
The kitchen, dining area and bedroom are all similarly cluttered with knives, stored and loose. Obviously, i am not married, so i am able to enjoy my knives 24/7 regardless of which room i find myself in.

Thanks. I'd like someone to love them enough to buy them. At least half are 4 pin with serial #'s including 3 (or 4) from first year of production, 1977, went up to serial # ~ 19,000.
Eventually many millions of LB7's were made.
Why i think it is one of the best production folders of all time is in part because of the huge number made & sold and the fact that all of mine were bought on ebay, not pre examined and not even one has any blade play. note: many are used.
I have maybe 10 Buck 110 which is the knife that brought on the LB7. A few of these lightly used Bucks have a loose blade in the fully locked open position. The LB7's seem to be tougher.

I'm almost teary eyed here. It's taken about three years. But finally, I put the last puzzle piece together. Here is a 745 pattern Western punch stockman. I say 745, but technically this one doesn't have the shield or pattern number marked neither of which is uncommon at all for Western. I've looked for one of these for three years to complete my set. This one will do nicely until I can find one with a shield.

Dave, those are my kind of knives! Your "new" 2 blade looks to have pretty full blades and it looks like both are real Winterbottom! My #39's are the delrin Winterbottom . I don't think the old Queens are any better or any worse than any other old folding hunters. I like all brands, but have used my old Queen for so many years, it's just comfortable when it's time to dress a buck .
