Some excellent Boker Barlows popping up lately. I think that one has the nicest bone of any of the German-made ones I've seen. And frankly I'm still not 100% convinced that the jigged worm-groove bone on my old 494 is original equipment.313 Mike wrote:Picked this one up a while back but haven't had a chance to take pics...nifty little carbon steel Solingen made Boker barlow. I got a chuckle out of Schrade Cut Co suing him, I think it was over an automatic knife patent (his own patent) and I think he was at Challenge Cutlery at the time and he acted as his own counsel and defeated the heavyweight law firm representing SCC.gsmith7158 wrote:He was indeed Dave. He sold his automatic knife patent to Walden Knife Co. and then immediately outdated that by developing a knew locking mechanism for the press button. A bit of a shifty fellow as well.

8OT match strike pull and my first colonial- a ranger 4" stock. I like the blade shapes on the ranger, the sheepsfoot and spey are nice and broad, the clip reminds me of a schrade.

Here's a HOK from one of Scott's piles, a 4 line Camillus, it's missing the bail, has steel bolsters, 1/2 stops and appears to have full blades. Knocked a little of the rust off and sharpened both blades, I enjoy making one presentable again
. The bone is real pretty to me.

Scott's been finding some fine HOKS lately. That Voos jack with Rogers bone hasn't left my desk and is probably going for a ride with me again early in 2017. The man has a knack for knives.
I inquired after that Camillus but you were clearly quicker on the draw, pardner.
Some lovely old bones on that one.

Just got this ole gal and I love it! Lots of blade loss on the main blade but the stag handles are what attracted me to it. It's marked Case XX Tested and does not have any pattern number. I'm guess 1920-1940 made? Older than me by a little! the stag is weathered and shrunk a little but if it could just talk!

Paul that sounds like some of my logic. If I think I paid to much for one I immediately go buy a cheaper one to defray the average cost.
Is that ebony on the two blader. I like it!

It is black composition, I wish it was ebony! Either way it took the sting out of missing the 856, hopefully another aapk member got itgsmith7158 wrote:Paul that sounds like some of my logic. Well I may be in the minority on this but I think the slick black composition handles give certain knives a look of sophistication that is unmatchable. That one is quite beautiful I thinkKnifeSlinger#81 wrote:It is black composition, I wish it was ebony! Thank you for the kind words Greg. I agree with you on the composition, I do like ebony better but the composition usually has tighter f&f and a higher polish. I imagine that's because it's much easier to work with than ebony.gsmith7158 wrote:Well I may be in the minority on this but I think the slick black composition handles give certain knives a look of sophistication that is unmatchable. I was always intrigued by the Case sleeveboards - very quirky, odd knives. I pulled the trigger on one out of morbid curiosity as I've never actually seen one in the wild ... it's weird for sure, but is really flat & fits the hand well. I just wish they made the sheepsfoot blade beefier - it seems much too small for the frame. Anyways, the jury is still out on this one if it will stay with the firm, but it is well made.
pffffft that's not a knife ......... now THAT'S a knife !! Crocodile Dundee

John, that looks like a cross between the size of a coping blade and the profile of a Sheepsfoot blade. What shall we call it? Maybe a "shoping" blade?

Have a hankering to replace a lot of the old Schrade knives I use to have/use going back to the late 70's and through the early 90's. Sadly all were lost or stolen at some point.
Just came in the mail. Think I got a good deal, but I'm not really privy on worth of these pre 2004 Schrades. Caught it at end of auction with starting bid @ 35 Washingtons. I got the first bid in with seconds to go. Add 4 dolla shipping for a total cost of 39. Thing is mint. Box, sleeve, papers, sheath all are like new.
