Thanks Monk. I grabbed the plum liner this morning. I like them with thong holes, that way they're easier to grab, but for some reason this color really got to me. I also like the long striker nail pull.

Well, I knew it was too easy. That plum linerlock was sold some time back. There's a garnet one out there, and I might go that route. It's missing the long pull and I prefer the plum color, but it's got a hole. So... I mean a man needs a knife, right?

:D Was thinking you might've been mistaken on the cocobolo. Then again, I thought the run might've been so short that they came & went (got bought up) before I noticed. ::shrug:: Has happened before.

Not sure that 57 Wrangler grabs me or not. Got to think on it some. ::nod::

Okay guys, here's a question for you. Where do you get to see the newest patterns? On the GEC site or blog, TSA, where? I shuffle through the various sellers, but do some get the knives before the others? And is there a list of all the online GEC retailers somewhere? Thanks!

Lord, I'm getting in deep, aren't I? ::uc::

Roseskunk....

Welcome and great question.....I don't know if we would want to answer that question when it comes to "short runs" since we're all chasing those allusive few......but the Great Eastern site will post the newest patterns in the works so you'll need to spend some time checking each section and for the dealers.....Distributor Label on their site will answer your other question.
I think we all do the best job anywhere of keeping everyone up to date on the newest happenings in this forum...though to delve in deeper here's other great sources..

Here's a listing of the dealers: http://greateasterncutlery.net/blog/our ... tributors/

How to find the best of new releases and the short run special knives is still a mystery to me. I think you need to know the secret password.

A quick tour of a few distributors and these recent 2012 "Short Run" models can still be had....#73's in Ebony, #23's in Stag, Antique Jigged Brown Bone and Ruby Red..plus a run from 2011 of 8 pcs. #48 Dogleg Trappers in Crushed Sea Shell the difference being these have a clip and thin spey blade instead of the muskrat and thin spey from the regular production piece.

Every distributor does it a little differently. All try and tune it to what works best for them.

I keep an updated schedule of GEC production sequences that list the known variations coming down the pike. If you see something you like you can get on the Early Reserve for it. Once they arrive you will have first chance at it before it goes into the Early Bird section of my website. Many short runs never make it into the Early Bird if there are enough Early Reserver's to buy all the allotment. Is your head hurting yet? It is a little harder to do it this way, but it guarantees fairness in that it is all first come - first serve; no setting items aside for the favorite customer.

There are also a lot of items that are a surprise from the factory. Some runs, many distributors may get one or two; others only show up one place or two. Any short runs I am aware of generally get posted on my forum, whether I will have them or know where they will be available. The board that contains most of this information is New Products Worth Mentioning

As far as short runs currently available, I generally leave that up to the collector to find. Kinda like an Easter Egg Hunt for adults. Many I will note them as a "Short Run", some I do not. Rarely do I put an actual production count on them, as the factory changes these until the yearly numbers are released.

I'm one adult that isn't interested in going on Easter egg hunts to find a knife that I want. ::td:: It is beyond me why GEC would make only two knives of a very desirable pattern. ::shrug::
