Just bought this 4.25 Bear & Son trapper but haven't received it yet. Supposed to be Damascus blades.

Got another Hibbard Spencer Bartlett today. Blades are down quite a bit but still a nice knife. Good snap to both blades without a hint of wobble. Backsprings and liners perfectly flush at closed, half stop and open for both blades. When new with full blades would have been a great knife. Also a new HSB tang stamp for me.

Dan I'm going to have to disagree a little with you on that knife of yours. It didn't used to be a great knife.........It IS a great knife and one I'd be proud to have in my collection. Looks to me like the previous owner took excellent care of it and knew how to maintain a good knife properly. The quality is still easy to see.

Dan, that is beautiful.

I know nothing about this brand or much about vintage knives for that matter, but something about that knife (even just in pictures) just says "quality" …

Outstanding! ::tu:: ::tu::

Thanks Edge and Paul. Edge, Hibbard Spencer Bartlett & Co was a hardware wholesaler who did not make their own knives. According to what I have read their knives were made by Ulster, Camillus and Schrade.

Thank you, Dan. I do find the history and "blood lines" of knives interesting, just have not pursued that side of the hobby … yet. :)

Appreciate the info.

::facepalm::
no photos...dang, sorry.
a lady called...selling off her ex husbands( happy hunting grounds) stuff...new hubbie wants the room in the garage...
so she calls..."i found that box of knives"...so i leave smoke trails to her front door...

five "buck" knives made in pakistian...
well that's a waste...
then the big old timer comes out of the box...a 125 OT big ol thing...single blade, liner lock...shrinking scales, drilled rear bolster...heavy on stain from being closed in a cigar box for 40 years...
tang is Schrade-Walden

a CASE ..ss. a single blade lock back...2.5 inches long...metal scales. cute.

also a MKLEIN, chicago, made in usa...comes out...3 1/4 easy open, rope knife...the scales look like brown bakelite???
sweet little knife...
a TL 29...imperial, Ireland, stainless...almost mint...big old fat black plastic/rubber scales...the other box is six steak knives..unfinished...with new scales...need mounting.
so how much????
five a box she says. ::facepalm:: i gave her twenty. and i still feel like a bandit.

You're right, Mike - once you start wit dat "lovin" stuff, next thing you know, she'll think she's got dibbs on some of your knives, and then the whole thing goes to hell in a hand basket … we all been there …

Keep it simple - you buy, she delivers.

Maybe don't even smile at her too much, just to be on the safe side … 8)

Sweet Trapper, though - nice snag. ::tu::
