Trip back from previous post. Across Utah back to home state of Nevada. Mainly on Interstate 80.

Many cool sights all the way, no pictures.

However, I did stop at Bonneville Slat Flats. In most cases, where your table salt comes from. A large "Morton" salt factory on the edge of the lake.
The sheer size of Salt Lake and the flats is awe inspiring. Runs for miles, plural, along the interstate. The strech between and including both lake and flats is about 100 miles long. Flats stated to be 12 miles long by 5 miles wide, 5 foot thick crust.
On the flats, they allow walking, even driving on it via established "roads" with common sense restrictions to keep given idiots in check. No time to do either this trip. Some day.
Beautiful country.

Went to edge of flats. Like solid, clumped, flat, on a grand scale, rock salt.

All pictures are awesome but the first one, with mountains and fog, is pretty darn good in my opinion from a cell phone.

Beautiful pictures of creation, Jerry!
Catching up on the forum this morning before daylight, remembering that my mother and dad met in a place called Ely, Nevada. She, an RN and he was in the Army, few details about that meeting 80 plus years ago.
I do remember them mentioning swimming in the Great Salt Lake, something about it would be hard for someone to drown because of the buoyancy of the salt water.

Not often I get this close to a Pileated Woodpecker.....I heard him from yards away!!

That is funny Scott you said you heard him. Up here in Illinois we have a fake fire place with a galvanized cap. I can’t recall if it is a Fliker or Red bellied woodpeckers we get. Sometimes they beat on the drip edge going into the gutter and you can definitely hear them.
When they beat on the chimney cap it has the timing of a machine gun not sure how fast but definitely fast. First couple times in the spring it scares the dogs the way it comes into the family room. Then when we realize we send the dogs to go bark at them and scare them away. Amazing how fast they can peck.

The Pileated Wood Pecker has very some very distinctive calls. When they fly it is different than the call they make while working on a tree. There's probably a mating call if we'd just pay closer attention The drumming or pecking is quite a sound too, as they search for insects in usually dead trees. We have several around our place and there are enough dead trees in the woods to keep them busy.

The redbelly like to peck on gutters also they sound a m-60 machine gun while the pileated is more like a 50 cal. You can hear them from a long way, I had to finally cut a couple of old dying trees in my yard recently they had dead limbs on them and I seen pieces of wood they'd knock out as big as my fist.

And as far as the woodpecker sounding like a machine gun, I have never heard one. That is what I am talking about. Then it beats on the chimney cap comes right down into the family room. The male dog red looks around. Like I said now we say get him and he goes out looking up and barking up a storm. The woodpecker attack should start before to long.

We have a family living in our woods. They come many times a day to feed from my feeders in the front yard.____Dave

No woodpeckers today.
Brother his daughter’s long time boyfriend went out to Gum farm yesterday. Put out 11 birds came back with twelve. Bella his dog did wonderful again. We were out close to the 3 hours, she was pretty tired.
We may have let one get loose not sure.
We all shot pretty well. I shot pretty well. I had three birds all to myself and none of them escaped. It did take a second shot for each, which is unlike me it’s usually first shot or they fly free. We Had a great day.
No snow yesterday TF. It is a bit white this morning and cold.
Forgot to take a picture yesterday. I used the Browning 20 gauge 725 Feather O/U. I took a picture now does not do it justice. To dark in the basement.

The ATV and powerline shots are around 1,000', the hunting hut is at around 1,250'. I also rounded up 19 eggs in the hen house. They filled my Case hat.

My brothers dog Bella is coming along. She was a fully trained version. Still goes out at top speed. Think she may miss some too start. Once she slows a bit it ramps up her tracking and hunting ability. My brother told the breeder he wanted 40% hunting 60% house dog. Think it was the other way around. Now that she is 3 she’s coming around. We had a couple of birds go down in a forest. One we got her close and she found the other one I saw a rabbit running away and here comes Bella with the bird.
Definitely a great time. Going to have to find another hundo seeing as we are out of birds going to have to go out at least one more time.
