My 1st thought was a pew pew? Then I realized ScoutKnives will never get any hate mail from the Karens for saying what I didn't say in my post about a pack of domesticated canines. Pew pew it is!

TF, they would be dispatched if I had the energy to set up my turkey blind and sit down there until 3 or 4 in the morning. I am dubious about my chances though. They would smell me a mile off, and of course they don't show up every night - maybe once or twice a week. I 'm old, and that would be way past my bedtime!treefarmer wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 8:49 pmI'm learning something every time I read the AAPK forum!ScoutKnives wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 7:36 pm Nice pictures UNK

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Back before our 3 cowhands went off to college and didn't come home, we had a small commercial cow/calf operation going on at Starvation Plantation. We had trouble with dogs trying to catch young calves. The. Sheriff at that time gave us some good advice, "Do what you need to do and and keep your mouth shut." He said if you know who owns the dogs and you say something to them and then the dog comes up missing, they'll know. If they cared for the dog, it wouldn't be roaming people's pastures.
40 years ago we didn't many deer, now we have lots of deer, no cows and a lot more neighbors with a lot roaming dogs.
A pew pew is still utilized from time to time.

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
More adventures with the Guinea fowl today. We were getting dressed for church this morning when through the window I saw a quick movement outside in the chicken yard. Thinking maybe a coyote had somehow gotten inside the fence, I looked out to see a big red tailed hawk was in there, on the ground. And the guineas were chasing it! It was comical.
The guineas had it surrounded. When the hawk would move toward a Guinea (I guess trying to catch or kill it)
another Guinea would charge at the hawk, either from behind or from the side. The hawk would turn toward the charging Guinea but then another Guinea would rush at it. Meanwhile all the chickens were hiding in the dog kennel. (The dogs weren’t in it). When I went out the back door of the house the hawk took flight.
Free entertainment!

Ken, those Guineas are tough old birds!
We took a second dove hunting trip to my buddies ranch this weekend. We were covered up in dove. We got out there around lunch on Friday, and went out to hunt around 4, and I had my limit in a little over an hour. Saturday was just as good. I've never seen the dove so thick. We had Rib-eyes on Friday night, and Sloppy Joes on Saturday night, and a lot of Miller Lite. Had a great time as usual. Here's a few pics.

Looks like y’all did good! Also looks like rattlesnake country. (Actually I think they’re better eating than dove).

Ken, yes, he has killed a few rattlesnakes out there. But we haven't seen any when I was out there. I do watch where I step when I am out in the field looking for a downed dove. I have some snake boots, but they are so darn hot I don't usually wear them. The place is mostly mesquite and cactus. Lot's of red ant hills, and we see an occasional horny toad. And a lot of scorpions around the house, but they don't bother you much (I have those around my house and shop, too).Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 3:04 am Looks like y’all did good! Some more pics around the ranch house. It sure is a nice place to get away for a weekend, and the weather was perfect.
