I remember the Crosleys, a neighbor down the road had one when I was real young and as an early teen-ager, I remember a dude had a Crosley with a big 6 cyl of some description, with a 3/2 manifold at the local stock car track. That thing would scream! Thanks for jogging my memory. Treefarmer

I remember the Crosley's and that Ford Econoline pickup. The local NCR office had a Ford Econoline van when I first went to work for them. It was not the most loved vehicle in the fleet.

When I was a high school freshman at Harrisburg Illinois, there was a little short gal with a teenage boys dream front bumper that drove a Nash Metropolitan. It was fun to watch the fight between the steering wheel and her front bumper.

Phil -- Did you notice, when you enlarge the picture of that Ford Econoline, the vehicle says Dodge on the side? Must be a really rare model that belonged to MyrtleFaye.

And they say today's cars all look alike.

I remember those Crosley's. Manufactured in Cincinnati by Powell Crosley. He also manufactured home appliances - radios, TV's, etc and was the owner of the Cincinnati Reds and radio and TV stations WLW. During Roosevelt's "fireside chats" he broadcast over the WLW transmitter, which at the time, I think, was 500,000 W, clear channel.

Just Googled the Ford Econoline pickup truck and they look a lot like the Dodge that vikindog posted. I also remember a Jeep truck, the FC 150 that was a little cab over job. There is a page full of them in the Google images also. Treefarmer

When I was a teenager, my stepdad bought a 54'Willys car (used,well used**)___it got around 50 mpg also__not as nice as the photo,I found,___but for $1.00's worth of gas,we could ride all week-in !!!!!!!

My dad had them all at one time.

He settled on Nash. He loved that flathead engine. I drove a Nash Rambler to high school for two years. Not a chick car.

I think all cars got 50mpg back then. That was before the government started getting into the car business.

what is that thing, exactly?

Mygalomorphae Americanous or North American Tarantula. (some people call 'em Wolf Spiders) Basically harmless to warm blooded animals, but I wouldn't stick my finger in it's mouth!
Unlike most spiders that have a one year life cycle, these can live up to five years. They hibernate in the woods, under rocks and fallen trees, then migrate out in the spring and fall to mate and look for food. Mostly larger insects like crickets, but will feed on the occasional small snake or lizard.
I like their "mean face" when they rear up on their hind legs. Pretty intimidating to predators, I would think. From what I can tell, their main enemy has to be Crows, i've seen a few get nabbed by 'em anyway.

Kept one as a pet one time...in a terrarium.....for about year....then turned him loose.

LOL!! Only a Texan would know how a Tarantula responds to a 22.cal bullet! That's too funny!!
I usually don't mess with 'em, as long as they stay out away from the house. If I find one crawling around the edge of the house, I usually just scoop'm up and throw 'em back into the woods. This one happened to be out in the driveway.
Taking the pic was kinda spooky! Them hairy little rascals CAN jump a couple of feet when the mood strikes 'em! I like critters, but that would've totally freaked me out!!
I sent a copy of the pic into MoCon magazine, maybe they'll use it one of their future issues.

No tarantulas around here (thank god!), I would need a very long distance lens to get pics of one. Like the t-shirt says "We have nothing to fear but fear itself. And spiders." So these pics are guaranted to have nothing to do with spiders of any size....

This time of year, the sun rises just an hour or so before I have to be at work. There is a pedestrian bridge over the river just half a mile from work, so I have been trying out some sunrise pics. I can't hope to match the great shots most people get of some gorgeous sunrises so I tried a little different approach where the sunrise is just a contributing factor to an otherwise normal shot.

Beautiful. I especially like the prismatic effect with the duck.

Did you use any color filters?

Thanks Charlie. No filters, but I did intensify the colors and increase the contrast a little in Paint Shop. There is a setting on the camera that may do the same thing but I haven't tried it yet.

I guess I should have guessed that. Thats quite the bug. I'm surprised it's harmless to warm blooded animals. I thought all spiders were poisonous. Especially one of that size.
We have Wolf spiders here, but they aren't very big, but they are very quick and hairy and they will jump at you.
They really aren't a problem.

I'd sure like to get some wood out of this old bolt of pine to make something. I made a fir box a while back for my spuds and onions.

I bought this old folding rule today at a flea market.
I haven't seen one in one foot dimention.
