Camillus 72 Clones

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Got this little Hammer Brand 72 clone out of the bay. I was surprised that I was the only one who bid on it.

Floyd, does that Hammer Brand look as good in person as it does in the picture? How's the walk & talk? Nifty neato.

Skip, Jerry thanks for the comments. Yes Skip there does seem to be enough in the bay to merit looking. ::nod:: ::handshake::
Jerry, it is a very clean little knife. The main blade is a little lazy, maybe a little oil would help. The secondary's both have great snap. It is a quality, well make knife, unlike the Bear for sure. Thanks. ::handshake::

Today this Remington R14, with 3 blades, a swelled center, an etched main blade, 3 5/8" closed AND with wooden handles, became the latest member of the Camillus 72 variations family. This is the FOURTH Remington variation of the Camillus 72 pattern. I WILL SHOW ALL 4 VARIATIONS IN THE NEXT POST AFTER/BELOW THIS ONE. This one needed no cleaning and these are MY pictures.

This evening I purchased this pocket knife, another Schrade 863 and it is another Camillus 72 variation. I "should" get it next week. I'll give it the once over when I receive it and post MY pictures in the appropriate location(s). These pictures are the seller's.

Tonight I purchased this 3 blade, swelled center, Craftsman 9494 "whittler" pocket knife. Yes, it's a Camillus 72 variation. It "should" arrive next week. I'll give it the once over when I receive it and post MY pictures in the appropriate location(s). It's missing the shield, but otherwise it looks like it's in pretty good shape. These pictures are the seller's.

Hi Floyd and thank you. No, the other Craftsman had a stamped tang, but no pattern number.
It's back on page 7.

Fished this little yellow 72 clone out of the bay for $10. No marks on the blades out side of wear and sharpening and a bird on the shield. I have seen that bird else where on the forum but don't remember the conclusion. I'm thinking far east but I really don't know. It is better quality than the Bear BSA knife.

Floyd, I too have seen that bird but like you cannot drag the relevance out of the dark recesses of my memory into the light. Maybe someone will come along and help us out. I also would put one of those in my pile if I ran on to it.

I just got this one so I could do some resto work on it.....
Does this one count as a 72 clone OR do the 2 short blades have to be in the correct order to count?

This one has both short blades on one end.

It's a Henkels
(AND... It's a total shame)

I don't have it in hand yet but, It looks to be well executed. It's filthy but the liners looks to be all dolled up.
