Stockman Knives

Just picked up my first Henckles, mostly because it has Mammoth covers. Really a nice knife, smooth movement, tight, no wobble, smooth rounded ends, very good transitions, no gaps or anything, and a great looker. What's not to like? I like it anyway.

Ivoryman, the 2nd one down, the PAL, gets my vote! They are all beautiful but the old bone on the PAL rings my bell.
I have 4 Pals knives with the same bone but none of mine have a shield.
Wish I had taken interest in them earlier.

Thanks TFarmer, you have great taste, and there are still a few of them out there I see from time to time. I still look for them and check them out and try to find diamonds in the rough or good specimens for the pile. Thanks again.

By 1994 Frank Buster "Cuz" had built over 300 different three blade "Stockman" knives with various handle materials, measuring 3-¾".
I have many Fight'n Rooster knives, mostly in the stockman pattern pictured below.
Most of my Roosters were obtained in the early 1980s through the early 1990s from "Clarence Risner" of Spring Valley, Ohio via land-line and when he attended the yearly So. Ca. Blade Shows.
The below stockman are also all celluloid. I have lost celluloid knives in the past due to outgassing, but they are not all time bombs. I have 100 year old plus celluloid handled knives that are fine. Just keep an eye on them and keep them clean and segregated. Collectors know when to take action. One should not be afraid to enjoy celluloid handled knives.

Stockman Pattern
Years ago I just collected any knife that caught my eye. Then to put some focus on things I settled on the good old Stockman Pattern
I have had (literally) a couple of hundred of them.
I've sold off a few lately and more to go but of the ones to keep, it made me think.... "what features do I really like in a Stockman".
This is pretty much it.... 4 to 4 1/2 inches closed and a big bold main blade.
For me personally these are two of the best.
My regular carry the Case XX (Probably made by Queen) and the German Carl Schiepler

Thats a great looking collection you've got there...I'd love to see them all....as a fellow stockman guy!
Mine have been kept to 3 3/4 -4"... its been cost preventative and I really do prefer the weight and feel.
Its sad that almost all of the alternative stockman (with bottle openers, straight razor sheepsfoot etc are almost always 3 1/4---3 1/2...

Another of my favorite stockman is this Kutmaster 4 blade that I picked up at a fleamarket for $1 because the handle material was bad. I redid it in elk stag.
