Hi Bobby P.......thanks for posting the photos of the Colonial plant. Sad to think what cities once meant;BIG businesses which sustained livelihoods for decades. I can almost see the boys traipsing in with their lunchboxes, yelling and pointing and laughing...

Hello Thawk! Nice Colonials and in dam good shape I might add. The Barlow was our famous # 292 and a nice little knife for the money. The other one's a bit older and I believe this one's an old DC-4603, three blade jack. Thank's for showing them and welcome aboard!!

And good morning Mexicanburger; welcome aboard as well....from your descriptions I think you have a similar # 292 Barlow, and a one blade # 392 Master Barlow. If the Old Cutler is a medium jack, it's our # 422; if it's the large stockman, it's a # 522! Just so you know the Old Cutler line was the best quality line we ever made in the last 20 years or so of business. They had nice hard Delrin handles, solid brass liners and cut scales, solid N.S. bolster's, and 1095 High Carbon steel blades!

Bobby P, my Old Cutler is,then, the 422! When it was gifted to me, I remember cleaning it up, and my presumption was possibly Camillus, most likely Schrade, maybe even Kabar. With some Internet cross-referencing, to my great surprise, it turned out to be Colonial!! My grandpa the plumber always had a Colonial close-by, usually a 4 blade scout, or TL-29. He knew value in a tool, and wouldn't spring for a Case!! Your RAP stag Trapper for S & W is real pretty!!

Bobby P......one of your photos shows a red brick building with a door and five windows, with a metal walkway running off the upper floor to the tool room. Was this a building containing offices??

Nice Hawk, carrying mine right now - went out to the farm after church to zero the scope on a rifle and then worked on one of my deer towers, had the Old Cutler in my pocket (but didn't use it today). OH

Hey thawk, that's a # 522 two blade..still wicked nice shape!!
MB...You touched on a very clasic piece of history; the old two story brick building that grandpa and his two brothers bought in 1926 and started the company with! As I speak about in my book, [email protected], the doorway still has grandpa Fred's match strike marks where he lit his cigars!! This building was originally used for producing knives but eventually was turned into office space when the big factory was built. Grandpa Fred's office was the largest, upstairs right next to the old confrence room.
My book has a photo of his old desk plaque that proudly display's "F. Paolantonio, President"! Frederick in Italian is Fortunato, which means fortune!!

Howdy, showed this one in an earlier post but it probably should have gone here. Solid bolsters, solid handles, brass liners, and one georgious swedge on that big spear blade....other than a few sharpening marks and a little carbon peppering the mirror polish still shines through on this old non typical Forest Master.

It's a pretty early knife according to Goins` Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings.
Can't wait til Bonfire Bob (Bobby P.) sees this one!! This guy's good -
can probably give ya the pattern No. (Well he should be good as he had a part in ownership
of the Co. and is the ONLY cutler from the 3rd generation of the Paolantonio family. )

Does the knife have steel or NS bolsters? The earlier camp knives have steel bolsters
but there the same pattern (maybe except for the huge - heavy swedged spear blade).

Here's Goins` dates for the Colonial Knife Co. ~ *NOT all of these markings were tang stamps.* ~

Thanks Joe. I answered "Trutemper's" pics of his old # 1200 Forest Master with a long detailed explanation on "Colonial Knife Company Forum" thread but it's to long to re-write! Please go check it out..As I spoke of Bob's Forest Master, I told him we made a camp style knife many years ago but it's not sheilded on either side but this is definately one of the most incredible camp or scout type knives we ever made!
I date this baby back to early 40's and it has some unique feature's that very few Colonials ever had. First of all there is no belt punch, but a pen blade instead! Second, along with solid N.S. bolster's and solid pin construction. the bail has a solid pin as the assembly pin!!
Most of the Forest Master's and camp knives have the squeezed or crimped on bail; not this one. Another important feature is the blades and springs are .095 in thickness, where most of all the others are .080. The most unbelievable thing is that this knife is so beefy,
they made it with THREE (3) .050 cut scales!! and two .032 liners!! The back picture your about to see is most impressive! The center pin is also hand peened, rather than spun like most. Check out the pics!! Bobb P. CKCo....

Thank's Scott! If your a good boy, I'll dig out my customized version of the same knife in Abalone Pearl I made 30 years ago...gettin' some stuff done but I'll post the pics today..

Thanks for the compliments Joe....I still have a bit of 100 year old Abalone; send me a finished Joe K. custom pearl, I'll send you more pearl to compinsate!! Am I going to have to come down to North Carolina to show you how to evenly sand those pearl pieces and epoxy them on an angle to those lock back skeletons! Only bustin' your beans buddy...I know you've had a lot on your plate..do you need more pearl?? Make sure you sand the pieces very close to fit, then glue them, and put a small amount of heat to finish to the liners!! DAM, I'm going on line and get me a ticket south bound!! Joe, you have more knife making skills than anyone else here; from what I can see...Get busy brother!!
We are all waiting to see the end results of all those toys I sent you! You are the man!!!
Just do it!! I still have a ton of barlow parts you ain't gettin' till we see some of your work.

You are showing some of the prettiest knives!!!I had no idea Colonial made such fancy dandies....wow...beautiful stuff....thanks for the nice comments on my ole Camper Joe....I need to send you some photos of a real early Imperial with georgious solid handles and great swedged blades as soon as I can get some time.....I`m really enjoying these post....thanks guys!

I understand that iron bolsters were commen on wartime production knives of this type.

I have had the first two of these for more years than I can remember.The other ones I probably got at a yard sale.I use the trapper a lot and it still has great snap on all blades and I carried the jack for years.
P.S. I have been told that the small sheath knife came with a pair of boots in the 1960s.It hade a sheath and is a real well made knife.
