Re: Rope Knives
MB: Trying to learn something. Besides the bail what identifies the Keen Cutter as a rope knife? Thanks

The knife is Mexeur Co ( I think made Knives in France in 1898- and must have moved to England ) .The tang is Mexeur Co SHEFFENG( SHEFF ENG )

I think it's bakelite. It hard material and has a couple of cracks in the handles.royal0014 wrote:Nice one, Shearer. What are the handles made of? From the picture it

Re: Rope Knives
Don't know if this qualifies or not;it does have a Wharncliffe style blade among others.Bought this on e-Bay years ago for about $15 on a whim.Think it may be of Indian origin.Machine engraving on scales in random patterns;stamps that look like military marks but not in English.Looks to be cheaply made with inferior steel but is actually pretty well built. An unusual feature is where the blade butts against the backspring when open;each blade is cut on a slightly different angle and when open the gap is almost invisible.Have seen a couple since but nobody seems to know their origin.

Re: Rope Knives
Picked up this Schrade with the Wonda-Edge, handle stamped Jackson Rope which was an old company in Reading PA that I think went out of business in the 70's

Re: Rope Knives
Here is a knife I have owned for a long time and I still can't bring myself to part with it.
