Re: wirejacks
Today I've added this GEO. SCHRADE, single blade, wire frame/handle pocket knife to my collection. I am calling this particular pocket knife "The Mutant." I was doing my normal scrolling through page after page of pocket knives, looking for any type or pattern that I collect. This pocket knife made me do a double take and a pretty loud, W.T.F!! Something about it didn't look quite right. So, I bought it. Now that I have it and can examine it more closely, I'm 99.99% sure that the blade is from a completely different Schrade, non-wire frame/handle pocket knife. Maybe it's a wire frame/handle pattern pocket knife that I'm not familiar with, but I doubt it. I have compared it to every Geo. Schrade wire frame/handle pocket knife that I have. I can eliminate the Geo. Schrade, Scout utensil kit knives, as none of them have a nail nick. I can eliminate the Geo. Schrade pocket knife with the fish scaler on the spine. I can eliminate the Geo. Schrade pocket knives with the shorter handles, such as the hawkbill pruner. Also, the nail nick on this blade is very short/small (3/8") compared to the other nail nicks. It's obvious that the blade has been reshaped. Yes, it's ugly, it's grotesque and it's a welcome addition to my collection. So, what Geo. Schrade pocket knife was this blade originally a part of?
Here are my other other wire frame/handle pocket knives for comparison.

That is the Vintage Ultra Rare Limited Edition Custom Toe Cutter Wirejack. Re: wirejacks
Smitty, thank you for your input but I have no idea what you're saying. I don't have another wire-jack that looks anything like this one, the blade, not the handle. The blade tip "should" sit lower in the handle, not up like it is. I don't have another wire-jack with a 3/8" nail nick. I just measured all of the nail nicks on the other wire-jacks and each one measured just a hair over 5/8" in length. All of my wire-jacks are pictured at the provided link and are all individually featured throughout this topic.Papa Bones wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 9:21 pm That is the Vintage Ultra Rare Limited Edition Custom Toe Cutter Wirejack. You had a photo with two and one of them had a smaller nail nick if I remember correctly.

I must have been mistaken on the size of the nail nick. To me in this photo you posted the top wirejack the nail nick looked smaller to my old eyes.New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 10:16 pmSmitty, I have no idea what you're saying. Sorry, I was editing my previous post when you posted yours. It must be an optical illusion. I could maybe see a 1/16" or 1/32" difference in overall nail nick length, but not a 1/4" difference.Papa Bones wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 10:25 pm I must have been mistaken on the size of the nail nick. Re: wirejacks
Hi Skip. It looks like a large clip point blade that was shortened for some reason. The tang stamp is correct. If you look at the nail nicks of the two large frames the angle matches that of the clip point and if you count the number of jumping marks to the right side of the nick to the pivot they line up.New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 6:22 pm Today I've added this GEO. Re: wirejacks
Thank you joeradza. I understand what you're saying. But what keeps bugging me is the length of the nail nick on the knife in question is only 3/8", compared to all the other nail nicks that measure just a hair over 5/8" in length. I'm not going to dwell on it any longer. It's odd looking, but I like it. Thank you VERY much for your input.

It's hard to tell Skip but they don't look perfectly lined up, but then again I'm sure there is a certain amount of variation in all knives.New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 10:31 pmSorry, I was editing my previous post when you posted yours. Re: wirejacks
Skip to my eye the nail nick on the shortened blade appears cut off. I tried to measure the distance from the right side of the nick to where the clip starts to dip and they are virtually the same.
Edit. On further examination the nick doesn't appear to be cut off. Hmmm?

Re: wirejacks
The picture was just for a rough, general comparison. But the tape measure doesn't distort. I measured every single nail nick on every single GEO. SCHRADE pocket knife I have and they are all just a hair over 1/4" longer than the one in question. This is why I think the blade is from a non-wire frame GEO. SCHRADE knife. Anyway, no more......

Ahhhh, the wacky world of pocket cutlery. Thanks again.
