Knife Show Wonders

I had a knife show this weekend in Toledo, Ohio. After I set up I made 2-3 trips around to see if there was anything that caught my eye and didn't really see anything. The last day of the show, this older gentleman comes by my table and shows me two knifes that he bought from a seller almost right behind me. Both were very old stag handle beauties and one was indentical to the one pictured by knife7knut, the George Woodhead Pruner circa 1860-1870. It was incredible! He wasn't sure how old it was but thought it was civil war era vintage. Then he tells me he paid $10.00 for each of them! He also told me that another guy bought 15 old autos from the same seller who originally wanted $10.00 each for them and since the buyer said he would take all 10, he got them for $5.00 each. Four of these were vintage Case knives! I quickly started perspiring to the point of needing a towel and I think my heart rate went up a couple hundred beats per minute as I made a beeline to the mans table. He sat there with listening to his IPOD and had some of the most worthless, flea market stuff imaginable. He had the knives all jumbled up in a couple of boxes on the table. He apparently bought all his knives from an estate sale. I didn't have the heart to tell the poor guy what he sold was worth.

Wow---What an awesome find for those guys. That NEVER happens to me....unless we are talking about the ipod guy. I have sold many things way lower than they should have been. Nothing that bad, though!!

If I were at that show, I would have been hanging around Jim's table B.S.ing, while the action was taking place behind us both !

You are a good man Jim ! The seller went home to a good night's sleep, thinking of all the knives he sold. I bet you lay awake for a while !

I think I'm going to have nightmares about this for a long time. All the knife sellers were just amazed when they heard and saw some of the knives. It just goes to show, you never know what's sitting in some of those boxes crammed with knives.

That's just amazing Jim, I'm also in the "that's never happened to me" crowd. Quite the lucky finds! I missed a couple of shows this weekend myself due to th usual workload. How'd you make out in PA Fran?

Hey Eric,

We missed you, and were thinking of you ! Still snowing here since yesterday morning, but rain down south in Philly.

You didn't miss much on Saturday Only got the one in the ' knives from Pa.' thread on Sunday, but our friend got a couple. He went through some boxes of junk, but that's all he found in them.
