Schatt-Morgan Peanut review?

The comments I received on the Case Small Stockman weren't encouraging, so I've expanded my search. I really like the looks of this Schatt-Morgan Peanut and a couple of their others:

How is the quality on these? I wasn't thrilled with my last Queen purchase - a bit of blade play and the spring was ~very~ hard. Are the Schatt-Morgan better made than the ordinary Queen products?

And are there any other obvious choices that I'm overlooking?

Serpentine shape
Rounded bolsters prefered
2 or more blades
Natural handles - bone, stag

Well here is my opinion and thanks for asking.

First you should NOT judge a knife maker by just one knife. If you go to the company and look at 10 knives that just came off the line you might find one thing that is not to your likeing.
I know if you are not happy with the Queens that you bought and sent it back to the factory. They will do their best to fix it or make you happy.
Queens Cutlery is that way as so are many U.S.A. knife makers.

As far as Queens S&M's I will stand up and say YES they seem to be the top of the line knives. One thing you have to remember is they are production knives and not CUSTOM MADE KNIVES. If you are looking for the perfect knife good luck.

One more knife maker that is as good as S & M is NORTHWOODS.

Not looking for perfection, just my money's worth with no blade play.

They don't seem to have any small patterns. Ditto Canal Street.

What I may end up doing, ordering three or four knives, passing on a good one to him, and keeping the others for myself.

Who is him I see nothing in this post that you were hunting for some one else.

Well thank you for your respond so fast. I wish you well and have fun hunting.

Do send your Queens knife back to the company and see if that makes you feel better. I would call them fisrt but thats just me.

I have handled hundreds of Queen and dozens of S&M. I am totally pleased with the quality of both brands. S&M is a step up.

Neither has consistent sharpening.

Sorry. I'm looking for a gift for F-I-L. I asked yesterday about the Case Small Stockman in a different topic.

The first thing the man will do when opening the package is test the blades for wobble. I can see it happening in my head.

I may just try one of those S-M peanuts. Plenty of time to select something different if it doesn't work out.

Howdy,
I have only a sample size of one to add to your request for info on Schatt & Morgan knives. I recently purchased one of their "File and Wire" Toothpicks, and it is really superbly made. Fit, finish and aesthetics are first rate, and no blade wobble. I like it so much, I'm actively looking for others now, although I'm not a "collector" per se.

I aggree with okbohn, the quality is a little better in the S&Ms. I own both.

I just ordered a Schatt and Morgan peanut from Cumberland. I'll post a quick review when it arrives.

I also ordered a couple of Case knives for myself. I've been eyeing that Eisenhower for a long time, and a CV red bone peanut. Should make an interesting comparison with the S-M.

I have one of the S&M Peanuts, in Goldenroot.

I think you will be very happy with it. I don't think I'd call it a working knife or EDC knife, just because is so pretty looking. Fit and finish are superb, and its pretty sharp.

Its a little gem.
