From Mil-Spec Utility to Utili-Whittler

Been working on this concept for awhile, finally got around to putting it to work.
This started out as a well used Imperial Mil-Spec utility knife. The can opener was trashed and the spear was half gone. A bit of reprofiling to create a wharncliffe blade, wedge the center liner, make a pair of spacers to take up the slack from the thin primary and put it all back together in whittler form. Handle slabs are 120 year old chestnut barnboard. I left the whole knife with an aged finish.(pink scratchless has no place when using barnboard )
I think it turned out real good for a first try, excellent snap and everything seats in just right. I'll be building more of these in the future.

WB - that is a very interesting mod. I like it! Do I understand correctly that you used the original spear blade for the wharncliffe? How about the secondary spear blade? Is it from another knife?

Both blades are original to the knife. The spear blade had been sharpened to the point that reprofiling to a wharncliffe required very little. It was well on it's way anyhow. The pen blades, as I understand it, were one of the military specs for at least some of the utility knives issued over the years and were in place of the punch blades on standard utilities. This style of utility knife was also sold in the civilian market during the same time frames, so it doesn't necessarily mean this was a military issued knife. You could do this type of mod on any utility style knife, but it is nice to have a secondary cutting blade and a screwdriver/caplifter is always a handy tool.
