Griz and I are back from the wilds of northern Wisconsin after my week of bowhunting for the wiley whitetail.

~ 6 1/2 days of hunting
~ aprox 71 hours of woods time
~ 3 bucks seen
~ 4 does seen
~ zero shot opportunities

Sorry I couldn't make it happen Scott, I would have loved nothing more than putting Griz to the test on a Wisconsin whitetail, but it just wasn't my week. I am grateful for the deer I did see though, it was a great trip and my only regret is not blooding Griz. Bowhunting northern Wisconsin is a challenge though, there's not much agriculture and the woods are big with lots of room for the deer to roam.

Thanks for the opportunity though Scott....and thanks to Jerry D for being on the receiving end of all of my texts from in the field and posting updates here in the thread!

This is as close as I could get Griz to a Wisconsin Whitetail!

I'm back from our gun hunting trip...and while I wasn't successful myself, my brother was fortunate enough to harvest a nice sized doe!

He was going to use his Buck for the field dressing duties..but when I told him the story of Griz he jumped at the chance to put him to work!

We saved the heart and I cooked it up when we got back to the cabin, and the rest of the deer will provide venison for my bro and his family in the months ahead..

So Griz finally gets bloody on a northern Wisconsin whitetail....here's some action shots...

Sorry to report my week in the woods is over. I saw a dozen + doe but not a single buck. 3 guys in our group got 2- 4 points and a 5 point. Well, there's always next year, I might hunt in Virginia and see how that goes.

Great harvests and pics Gents! Good stuff. Really love this thread where we share all things outdoors!

Waiting to hear from my boss in the next couple days to see if I have 23 days off for vacation from 12/16 to 1/6/2014.

At the very least I should have the week of Christmas and New Years but will know soon on that too.

My Elk tag has been open since November 21st and I have yet to go out due to work and things in life that pop up. It closes on January 1st. If I get out for a few days and don't get one, that's cool. I just want to get out there. My son guides all his friends on their big game tags and never fails to bring a beauty back. Plus, with temps below -20F at times and a high of +20F, not too smart to go it alone.

Will let you guys know when I know about the vacation time.

Is Griz still in Wisconsin? Can't promise all the excitement you all have provided with the knife, but I will give it a shot if no one is using it and my days off pan out.

Let you know soon. Jerry

Hey Scott,

Vacation was denied this week but I hope to go out the following 2 weeks but probably best to send to Treefarmer. Too many variables withe the holidays and all as far as how much I will be able to get out.

I will post some pics in the Outdoorsmans Thread though. Successfull or not. Hopefully the former of the two.

Scott was a hoping for Griz in Saturday's mail, needed him again yesterday afternoon. At least I can use him to do some of the processing on these 2 does that are in the cooler. Got a few more days of doe week, then back to watching for bucks only through February 23. The peak of our rut is around the 3rd week of January. Maybe ol' Griz will get a work out on a LA buck.
