Schrade Badger
Wondering what a Schrade Badger is worth? The knife is made in Ireland, the card is printed in China, and the headquarters are in Ellenville, NY. I know the company is closed now. I found two new ones still in the plastic packs. Just wondered if they were worth the ten dollars each? And if they have good blade steel?

There were several Badgers patterns made & one that was listed in the catalog, but likely wasn't put into production before the bankruptcy of Schrade.
Check out the research section here at AAPK. I have posted several lists taken from the catalogs: http://allaboutpocketknives.com/schrade ... models.php
Most of the Badgers were made in China. The only ones I have found that was made in Ireland was the SX4B, non-serrated, blackened blade, linerlock.
The 2004 MSRP was $26.95. They aren't a bad beater knife for the car, toolbox, tackle box, etc. IMHO, they are worth about $10.
I think the Irish ones are better quality than the ones made in China.

I think the one you have is a Taylor made Chinese version.
The box looks Taylor to me. They were probably made in the same Chinese factory that Schrade had them made in.

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated. I looked at the sites. I don't recall the blade being black? The bubble or blister pack had that info on the back of the card inside. I know it said it was made in Ireland tho the card was printed in China. I think I'd like to get one and see if the blade steel is good? The one that is pictured on the post is not the one I saw at the store. The one Ken posted. I guess it is the model SX4 or SX4B? If I can get one, I'll post a picture of it. Thanks again.

The SX4S was probably the last china knife I EDC-ed. I was just getting back into collecting, after a 15 year hiatus, & just getting into Schrade. I saw the knife, bought it, & carried it, not even realizing that Schrade had them made in china.
I actually liked the steel (for inexpensive stainless) & liked the feel of the knife. My left hand doesn't work well & so I like a one handed knife. The thing I didn't like about it was that the handle tends to start looking pretty bad in very short order. It scratches, scrapes & gets dirty, pretty fast if you carry & use it.
I would say it is about worth the $10...............I don't think it is worth the $25 MSRP of 2004. If you are a Schrade collector, they have a place in Schrade history.................not everything Schrade made was great.
Just my $.02.
I hope it helps,
Dale

It helps, Dale. Thanks. I never thought of myself as a "collector" but I guess I do collect knives? I've had a penknife in my pocket since ...forever... as far as I can remember. I have been oiling them and bagging them over the years. Some that I've run across I didn't even know I had. It is a fun hobby if kept "under control". I can't seem to keep it under control tho.

What is this control thing? I buy a knife that looks like it will make me HAPPY...
I hold her ,rub her, clean her, and Ren wax her. That makes me happy.
Then I see one more, or two that make me happy too. So your are not the only one with this ILLNESS...
