I have two bone handle 72.One is almost mint the other well worn but they are different besides the bone color. The coping blade is on the end of one knife the same as in the 1946 catalog on the other knife next to the clip.I have to stop studding knives every time I look I find something different.

Re: camillus #72
There's another one I don't have. A short line with bone handles and 2nd generation blades. This disease is going to bankrupt me.
Received three in yesterdays mail.
A Camillus short line with black composition handles and 2nd gen. blades.
A Hammer Brand ('45-'55 Can't see the USA in my picture and only the 'U' with the knife in hand.) that was in pretty sad condition. It cleaned up pretty well but took a good bit of elbow grease.
And last but far from least, a Trustworthy Hardware (Schrade/Ulster made) in factory condition that I traded for with a non-AAPK member (Yet. I'm still working on him. He's at least lurking now.

Moor Man's was a feed company. I just assumed that it was an advertising knife for the company. I have no idea why it would have been different.jerryd6818 wrote:Dale -- Look a little closer. Any idea when they stopped grinding the swedge?
As far as dropping the swedge grind, I'd guess sometime around the middle '90s. I don't think you can rely on the SFOs to date that but the "100th Anniversary" model with bone handles and ducks engraved in the blade and the Ole Smoky have swedge grinds, plus this one with the last tang stamp. All the rest I have with that tang stamp do not have the swedge.

That Hammer Brand is very interesting!
That is the only Imperial Hammer Brand I have seen that was not a shell handle!
The only other Hammer Brands I have seen that were not shells where those made by New York Knife, the original owner of the Hammer Brand name.
That is an incredible find!!!

JERRY a nice lot of knives . The 72 and it clones have more variation than any other knife.A person could just collect 72 and have a reasonable collection. Now I have some more knife I will have to look for.

Re: camillus #72
This Utica Kutmaster finally showed up in today's mail. She's a little the worse for wear but not horrible. It's kinda hard to tell whether the secondary blade along side the primary was originally a pen blade or small clip. Length and frame are correct for a 72 clone, plus I've never seen one before. Really nice jigged Delrin handles that favors Camillus jigging. (in my eyes) One more for the pile. I've outgrown my folders. I need a bigger one.
Edit: It's not a well made knife but it's one I didn't have. It'll do.

Re: camillus #72
Hmm........
If Utica put one out, I would not be surprised to see one show up with the Kabar stamp.
Utica, Camillus and to the best of my recollection Imperial/Schrade all made knives for Kabar.
We know Western had the same pattern, just not in a swell center frame.

Tommy, those are all Camillus 72s and clones such as Schrade 863, Ulster 63, Craftsman 9494, etc, etc. The only true whittler in that pile is the one you gave me.

Re: camillus #72
I didn't know it was a contest. I've just been cruising along fighting (not very successfully) this obsession with 72s and their clones. I hope you guys are just clowning around and don't think I'm the kind of person who has to be on top, 'cause that's not me. Obsessed? Yes. With being on top? NO!
Just one more (or two) and then I'm going to delete all my eBay searchs and stop. Or at least slow down a whole lot.
