Ulster Scout seems weird to me.

I spotted that this morning and saved it on ebay for a second look. I too think it's been altered. The handles don't look original and I'm a little uncertain about the blade etch too. It's much darker on the left side than the right side of the etch.

I don't believe it's a Ulster, with the tang stamped Made in USA it's probably a military WW2 knife, I'm sure they never used steel bolsters and liners on any of their scout's. The etch is different from any Ulster I've seen.

It looks like an altered WW2 Mt. Division knife to me as well but the blade combination isin't one I've seen on them. The rear scale looks like a mess. It might be some sort of transition Frankenknife. We need an Ulster expert to step up here

I can't copy the photos to post here but while it's on ebay, please check out this listing and see if it isn't virtually the same knife (bail is a little different) and of course there's no Boy Scout etch on the blade.

OK...here is a Ulster for comparison, the punch and can opener are a little different from the knife in question, and the blade etch...well draw your own conclusion. It is not a official scout knife, Camillus, Schrade and Ulster all made knives tang stamped Made In USA for the military and Sears.

I have seen a couple of Ulster scouts with steel bolsters/liners that were undoubtedly scout knives, with original shield and all. They dated to the end of WWII/early post-war period. At the time, I suspected they were made using leftover parts from military contracts but have no confirmation on this.

That etch just looks wrong, like it was done with a stamp instead of the usual etching process used.
