it might have been announced before as to who is doing the camillus line now but, i can't find the source. last nite on smkw they had a new camillus fixed blade.
i was curious as to who is making these and other new camillus knives. thank you

The Camillus intellectual property (the Camillus name) was purchased by Acme United Corp. in 2007 at the bankruptcy auction. They also own Clauss Cutlery.

The Camillus brand was relaunched in 2009 at the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas.
In 2011 they signed Les Stroud (Survivor Man) to promote the Camillus line.

It is not your grandpa's or daddy's Camillus Cutlery Co., But I wish them luck, especially if they produce some products in the USA. I am not sure where their products are made, but most of their new designs are made using VG-10 or AUS-8A steel. From the steels used, I would suspect they are made in Japan, though I could not find verification of this on their website. I seem to recall earlier press releases from Acme stating that they were intending to bring some of their production back to the USA. I certainly hope they do so.

I noticed that my local Wal-Mart carries a number of the new Camillus knives. I examined a couple and they seem to be well built knives. I do not recall where they were made.

thx dale. i noticed the steels also and they point to japan. what also makes me think overseas is the fact that no one is touting the made in usa spiel. usually people are proud to make that statement.
i know that japan has outdone some knives made domestically. but still, if they are going to use the camillus name, then it is only fitting that they be made here in the usa. hopefully back in camillus ny. but that probably wont happen.
from that website you posted, i noticed that some of the tangs have usa on them. that does not indicated they were made here, just that the camillus name is usa. they normally would have the stamping, made in the usa.

Well, I was mistaken.
I had to take our daughter to Wal-Mart today, so while she was shopping I looked at the knives.
The clerk didn't know where the knives were made, then th thought they were made in the USA because it says Fairfield, CT (as I recall) on the tang, so the clerk says, "Oh they are made in the US." Then he looked at the fine print on the box; it said "Made in China."




I guess I won't be buying one.

i think this is an insult to the camillus history........it's the same path the new schrades have taken.....disgraceful
i should have known when i saw it on smkw.....to me they are made in china businessmen.

In my limited experience I have come to believe that the country doesn't matter as much as the individual responsible for producing the knife.

My best made knife is still a WW II Camillus four line crossed swords got from Orvet.
I was lucky to get a knife of that quality and consider it a favour from Dale and not just a good deal. (I still think Dale let this one go by mistake )

I think that the individual responsible for putting out that knife was a craftsman who was expert at his craft because he loved it and was prepared to spare no effort in producing the best knife possible.
For him there were no limits to time or effort in doing his job, and the job he did had no relation to the money he earned doing it.
Nowadays the purity of intent is tainted by a lot of mitigating factors which get in the way of that old time attitude to quality.
The attitude still survives in some individuals but circumstances often stifle it.

i agree with you edge. and if you like that camillus, i'm sure you would be just as satisfied with any other usa made camillus knife. everyone at that factory was a craftsman who took exceptional pride in his or her work.
funny thing is, i was never a big camillus fan until they closed their doors. then i started acquirng their knives and was amazed at the quality...and camillus is only 60 miles from my home.

oops. 130 miles, dang, i didn't think it was that far. it seems like 60 miles when i am out on the bike., less than 2 hrs. its mostly all interstate.
now,,schrade,, in ellenville was always a good bike ride from here also. except that i took a spill on a trip to schrade. i wasn't paying too much attention to the road and came into a hairpin turn going a bit too fast and hit some loose gravel, unfortunately, me and the bike went into a slide. still, it was better than going down that steep embankment. i was ok and so was the bike except for the smashed windshield and some scraches. gotta be careful when your rubber necking the country scenery on those back roads. but they are some breathtaking rides.
